In July 2011, Dianne and I returned from three fabulous years in China where Dianne was an administrator for Maple Leaf International Schools. A little different Church picture

One of the churches was settling unevenly so they simply jacked it up with these "things"

Uneven door

Churches weren't the only buildings affected by settling. This door is to the smallest house in Ribe. 25 square meters... about 250 square feet. Used to house 7 people.

Nightwatchman tour

These guys were the forerunners of the police as well as having the job of lighting street lights. Today, they are great ambassadors for the town.

Inside viking house

I found these places pretty dark. The camera makes the best of the dim light.

Thatched roofs

Still lots of these roofs on buildings in use today

Carving

Many workers in the village were showing us how things were done 1,000 years ago.

Blacksmiths

These guys didn't have to worry about winter winds. It was HOT in there.

Docks

This chap was very informative. His English was great. He apologized for "blathering on". His use of idioms was very good.

Kitchen facilites

Great facility in the Danhostel. Several residents could be preparing meals at the same time. Don't miss Peter's arm invading the photo!
