Exploring the Traditional Fishing Village of Dragør Founded in the 12th century as a fishing village,it was used as a fishing port for centuries. It has a Dutch influence because the Danish king invited Dutch farmers to live in the area to supply food for the royal family in the 16th century. The Dutch were more agriculturally advanced than the Danish, and they actually introduced carrots to Denmark! It was a bit misty to see the bridge connecting Denmark to Sweden but Emma was able to show a picture on her phone. As we passed the fisherman’s shacks and the harbour we heard how the fishermen in Dragør helped save the Danish jews during the WWII. One of the small fishing boats used has been restored and sits in the harbour as a permanent memory. The ... read more
