Leaving Germany
...on the ferry Prins Richard to Denmark. Well...left sunny old Germany and headed to sunny old Denmark (note the hint of humour) on the train and what a trip it was!
Don left for warmer climates south at 6am and Ines and me made our way to Hamburg Hbf about
11am for my 1330 train to Denmark and hers to her friends place...
The first part from Hamburg to the ferry was a nightmare...the train was too full so had to stand
in the doorway with all the luggage (mine and everyone elses) for the first 2 hours and got
pulled on by customs who wanted to check my bags, but said dont worry when i pointed to
them at the bottom of the pile...ha ha
The train drove onto the ferry MF Prins Richard and we all got off for the 45 minute journey to
the port of Rodby in Denmark....the trip was smooth enough and when we reahed Rodby they attached
3 more carriages to the front of the train, so i got a 4 seat berth with a table for the 2 hour trip
to Copenhagen all by myself!
Got off at Norreport Train Station and my gracious host Ase met me there
The Ferry...
...was crowded... and we walked
the 100 metres to her place on the Norre Volgade...up more stairs to her place which
is smack bang in the middle of the Copenhagen city map!
next day went for a meander around the city, got marvelously lost a few times before
finding the National Museum and got lost in there as well....
walked around the city for the rest of the day doing the tourist thing, and that night
went t Tivoli Gardens with Ase and met some of her friends there to watch a concert..
the place was packed so i went walking again and made my way back to the flat....
Today just did the walkabout thing again and found a Maccas to use their WiFi....
Well, it rained pretty heavy last night (saturday) so stayed in and Ase cooked a traditional
Danish dinner....fake rabbit and potatoes and gravy...was marvelous!
...and today being sunday (15th August) most of the town is closed up, but walked around a few market
stalls and the sun is out with patches of blue sky and just waiting for my train to Roskild
and to my next blog entry!
Well...made it
the crew....
...are a friendly mob! to Roskilde without any problems...got here just after 1700 on the train and
my CS host Torben picked me up from the station and him and Pia made me feel right at home..
Sat in there big back garden and had some cheese and bread and drinks and a long funny chat
about travel and life, then inside for a great dinner and more chat!
Up at 8am today (Mon 16th) and quick shower and shave and on shanks pony into Roskilde
to visit the Tourist Centre and have a look at the church (Domkirke) and then down to
the Viking Boat Museum (Vikingeskibsmuseet) for a look around for several hours
but unfortunately the boat trip across roskilde Fjord was cancel coz of the strong winds
and a school group had the only 2 boats available booked out...bugger!
...and again today! (Tuesday 17th) it was just raining all day but went to walk there anyways
and quickly found out my raincoat isnt that waterproof! got soaking wet but continued
my walk anyways and stopped at the shops coz i offered to make dinner for my CS hosts
Pia and Torben, so made pasta and a greek salad
and bought this scrumptious strawberry
cake with an unpronouncable name from the bakery for dessert...yummo!
Back of into Copenhagen tomorrow!
Well, got back to Copenhagen in 1 piece and back to Ase's place to couchsurf for my last few days
in Denmark....took a trip to sweden on the train (see next blog) and back in time to go to
a jazz club and get some dinner with Ase, who then took me on a locals tour of 'Old Copenhagen'
before heading back home for a quick chat and sleep.
Got up early today (Friday 20th) and got sorted and posted a box of souvenirs back to meet
me in the U.K and organised my next part of the trip...
...so stay tuned!
