anders guiding us through Christianshavn Started off the day by biking into town with Anders. I was fortunate enough to be able to use his spare bike. Even though his neighborhood appears so suburban it is only about a 10 minute ride into the city centre. We stopped at a little place in Christianshavn (fairly trendy neighborhood with a bunch of canals running through it) to rent a boat to go exploring. All they had available was this little rowboat which was designed to be operated by one person. We each tried taking turns getting it going but it was pretty pathetic. We were barely moving, much to the enjoyment of the people eating lunch on the waterfront cafes. We ended up each just grabbing an oar and then we began picking up speed. Took a nice tour around the neighborhood before we were a little worn out.
He made his way back home to take care of some stuff and I went on my own walking tour of the city. Just cruised around the main area hitting some of the main sights: The Round Tower of Copenhagen (360 degree views of da city), Stroget and the Nyhavn. I especially loved the the last one
harbor
nyhavn (new harbor) since it is the image that is displayed on all of my Eurail stuff. I see this image everyday and have wanted to visit it not knowing exactly where it was. I figured it was somewhere in Scandinavia from what it looked like and figured I had a chance of seeing it here but was still so happy to finallly see it. Its kind of been a stupid goal of mine since I first got my Eurail pass in the mail. Something else to check off the list.
People certainly were not kidding when they said stuff was expensive here. And for whatever reason I cannot wrap my head around how long the exchange rate is. I keep seeing hot dogs for 30 kroner and think its about 3 bucks but its closer to 6. Damn. Anyways, I met up with Anders in the evening and we headed over to meet some his friends at the beach to do a BBQ there. The weather was really just perfect for this, continue to luck out in this department. Had some sausages wrapped in bacon along with some potato salad and had a nice conversation about how this island we are
classic
classic on outside of the centre of Copenhagen is similar to the Jersey Shore. Found this to be extremely entertaining. A bunch of the guys here are juiced up, fake tan, wear big shades and all the stuff we make fun of people in Jersey for doing. Not really sure how that crossed the ocean to Denmark (or the other way around) but I was endlessly amused. Grabbed some ice cream nearby to finish it off and headed back home and popped in a movie before bed. Looks like we will be back at the beach again tomorrow for some more cooking which I am pretty excited about. Vi ses
