Yesterday morning we departed Heidelberg for the hour-long drive to the Frankfurt Airport, where we boarded a Lufthansa A320 at 1:00 PM for our flight to Copenhagen. Travel days are always a bit nerve racking, but it was pretty much smooth sailing today, as check-in, security and boarding procedures were organized with typical German efficiency.
We even had enough time before our flight to grab a bite (and some Pilsner beer) at one of the snack bars. Despite the long walking distances from the airport terminal to the departure gates, Frankfurt earns high marks from us as far as major airports are concerned.
Soon after landing in Copenhagen, we connected with our taxi driver, who delivered us to our rental apartment in the Christianshavn district of the city by around 3:00 PM. We received a very cordial greeting by the female owner of the 2d-floor apartment, which has a view balcony overlooking a small canal, where sightseeing and pleasure boats have already provided some interesting entertainment. Our first task was to walk a couple blocks, with our carry-on bag as a grocery trolley, to purchase some basic necessities, including a bottle of Jim Beam!
The weather upon arrival
was a pleasant surprise, with some sunshine and blue skies gracing our first Happy Hour on the balcony. However, our good fortune was not to last, as this morning we awoke to chilly temperatures, gray skies and blustery breezes that made walking out of the question. We did venture out for lunch to a cafe just a few doors down the street from our apartment, and the food was very good.
Hopefully the weather will improve, as we're anxiously expecting the arrival of our friend Cindy Vogt, from Satsuma, Florida, in 2 days. Dee and I are planning to take the metro to the airport, where we're scheduled to meet her late in the morning, then return via the metro to the apartment, which is only a couple blocks away from a metro station.
Dee's Comments: Yesterday morning, our cab from Heidelberg arrived on-time, and by some quirk of chance or fate, it was the same poor fellow who got the traffic ticket when he drove us to Heidelberg from Frankfurt 10 days ago! The Frankfurt airport is huge (and busy), but the security check was thankfully a breeze. Arrived at our Copenhagen apartment, when a 90-year-old-man (if
he was a day), with a white beard, helped us lift one of our bags up the flight of stairs leading to the elevator---then he vanished! Perhaps he lives in the apartment building? We'll never know!
Today, early in the morning, we lost our wi-fi service, and contacted the owner by phone, but were able to re-connect (it seems to cut-out periodically, which is a big nuisance to me and your blogger). Later, around noon, sirens began to wail like it was WWII in London or Berlin! We found out on the internet that this is the one day of the year the city tests its emergency sirens, so we were relieved.
Many new things to learn here in Copenhagen, but the weather is miserable, 41-degrees and windy. Enjoyed lunch down the street, but prices in Danish currency (krone) are confusing. Hoping for nicer weather when Cindy arrives!

Another beautiful place!
Greetings to Copenhagen! Hopefully the weather will improve tomorrow so you can venture out. Jim Beam is very important. Dee can pray every morning when she makes the coffee.
