The Association of British Theological and Philosophical Libraries is holding its annual convention at IBTS and Nancy and I have joined the group. They are celebrating the association's 50th anniversary this year. To celebrate this anniversary, the decision was made that this year the convention would concentrate on "having fun," rather than holding lots of meetings. Would that more meetings and conventions concentrated on having fun rather than scheduling long butt and mind numbing meetings. After lunch today, Nancy and I joined the group for a tour of the Czech National Library and the Clementinum. The panorama pictures were all taken from the top of the astronomical observation tower of this ancient building. Since it was such a beautiful day it was the perfect chance to climb the many steps to the observation platform and take ... read more

So... to top off our spring break. we made our way to prague. Where you can live like a king. Well, not really but everything is sooo cheap you will really feel like you are rich in this city. The entire city is gothic.....and i was amazed at how beautiful the buildings still stand. After all that this city has been through, it still remains one of the most beautiful in all of europe. The entire time i was there, i had to keep pinching myself to make sure i wasnt dreaming. it was amazing. see for yourself, i could not stop taking pictures... read more

Prague, as well being the capital of the newly formed Czech Republic, is also the capital of Central Bohemia. Bohemia is an historical region within the Czech republic. So when someones says "That's very bohemian" or "the bohemian end of chapel street", it is this region that they are referring to. It is said that quite a number of artists, intellectuals and non-conformists inhabited this area in the past, hence why the term has the meaning it has today in western culture. Since I last wrote we have seen and done a great deal within Prague, and outside of it. The other night we stumbled upon the best Czech restuarant in the history of the world (Well we think so atleast). Apart from the outstanding food this restuarant offers, it survives despite heavy opposition from well, ... read more

Prague is one of the most beautiful Cities that I have seen. It is due to the fact that war really never was a factor, well to the point of destruction. They liked to give up a lot, so when an enemy tried to take them over, they really didn’t put up a large fight. Trey said that the Czech Republic have had more independence in the last 100 years than the all the years before that. We arrived with slight nervousness because we really didn’t know where trey’s dad was staying and trey hadn’t gotten a hold of him in the past couple of days to let him know when we were getting there, but that really didn’t matter because we didn’t know when we were getting there until we got to the train station ... read more

In 2002 there was a terrible flood in Prague. The Vltava overflowed its banks, flooding much of the old city and filling the subway lines with water. There are painted marks on many buildings showing the high point of the flood. Currently Prague is under a flood watch. The Vltava is at flood stage, the waters right at the edge of the river banks. The city has erected aluminum walls, designed to act as flood walls, along much of the river within the city. The high water is a result of rapid snow melt and heavy rain. We head a rumor that the subways system is to be closed today for fear of floodwaters flowing into and filling the tunnels that run under the river. We surely hope and pray that does not happen. People who ... read more

We have now arrived in the old city of Prague. Having heard so much about this place from other travellers it really had quite a bit to live up to. For those unaquainted with the capitol of the Czech Republich it, like Vienna, is famous for a lot of things but 2 mainly: Spectacular historic buildings and cheap beer. The Czech Republic are the undisputed world champions of beer production and, of course, consumption. Yes, Australia likes a beer but not as much as these folk. The most recognisable Czech beer is Budweiser. Yep, that beer flavoured water that the americans are so fond of. There are also a whole assortment of other beer you can chose from, too many to name. The Czechs also for some reason like to have massive head on their beer. ... read more

The steep hill beside the Prague palace faces the south and therefore receives lots of sun. Here are a number of beautiful terraced gardens. Some are being reconstructed, but others are in their full beauty. There is now a path alongside the outside wall of the palace where really wonderful views of the city and the gardens greet the walker. We are not sure when this path was opened, but this was the first time we gained access. Previously to this the gates were always locked. ... read more

Bill writes about such things as castles, museums, trips, etc. but I finally decided to write about the important thing. Good Food. We have plenty of Good Food this year. First we have good food in the dining room since there is a new catering company called Fusion. If you are Prague bound, Fusion not only caters our meals but has a nice restaurant and does catering outside of this campus. Try it, you'll like it. I especially enjoy the wonderful fruits and vegetables and whole grain fresh bread and rolls and the great vegetarian dishes at lunch time. My tummy is happy and I am happy. There have also been two times this week when food and lots of good food were part of the schedule of our lives. First, last Sunday night our church ... read more
