Moragh is Welsh for Mary. Moragh is from England and teaches at the Riverside International School here in Prague. She is not an uptight Brit, but rather an enthuasistic young woman with a quick smile and a quick laugh. Nancy- Let's face it we both love Moragh! We were invited to her "Moragh is 30" birthday party. It was such fun with so many people there who live in the different worlds she inhabits-Work, Church, Seminary Community. We all enjoyed each other and the food and drink and talk and laughter. Hurrah for Moragh! The Clarks hosted the evening and with the help of the Nichols who did catering for them showed everyone what a good party the Scots can throw.... read more

Prague is like waking up in a hazy, dreamy fog. Meg and I spent most of yesterday wandering along the winding cobblestones and On the (good) advice of a friend, we caught Vivaldi's Four Seasons in a tiny, lovely little cathedral at the top of the hill. Asya, who I met in Moscow last summer, is one of the great loves of my life. Shes doing a semester in Paris, so we managed to book some time together to catch up and such. She came up with her friend Emma, and the four of us took to the park and tossed through the hours with cheap cartons of wine. We later stumbled upon this fantastic beer garden with great views of the city-scape and chatted up some locals. Ive been thinking about how we create and ... read more

One of the things I really enjoy in these northern latitudes is the quality of light in the mornings and evenings. The morning and evening light are absolutely beautiful and both always wonderful times of day to take pictures. Colors are more intense and the long shadows add contrast and interest to the photos. Nancy and I enjoy walking up the Sarka Valley and it is UP with the babbling brook flowing the opposite direction. It is interesting to watch the valley change with the changing seasons. Here, the summers are shorter than back home. The plants have to hurry here and they seem to simply explode out of the ground in their rush to grow, bloom and reproduce before the long winter season sets in again and they rest until the spring rush arrives once ... read more

This semester there has been a group of college students here from Christopher Newport University studying European government, culture and economy. Nancy and I have enjoyed becoming friends with many of these young people. Their class work ended early this week and today most of them flew home to the states. From my conversations with these young people they all said it was a good semester. They worked and played and had a great time in this beautiful city. A number said they plan to return to Prague to work on their master degrees after graduating from Christopher Newport. A little travel gives a big education and changes the traveler's views and understanding of the world. Home is home and a wonderful place and most travelers look forward to returning there, but they return a different ... read more

This train trip was hilarious. Mr Canada was telling me tips on how to A) get the best cabin and B) get a second class cabin to myself. The solution... Make the cabin as messy.. as slobby and as horrible as possible so that when other passengers come to sit in your cabin at the beggining of the trip they get deterred by the prospect of sitting with crazy backpackers. For us this meant taking all the dirty washing out and hanging it on the windows and on the seats. Taking our shirts off and hanging them on the door and having food and drink scattered everywhere. The expression of shock on peoples faces when they went to enter the cabin then saw who they would be seated with was priceles. Was the funniest thing to ... read more

It is so beautiful outside; the trees are green and the flowers are in bloom. This is not Prague. Prague is cold and gray. I have to keep telling myself that I’m in Prague it's so different now with birds singing and being able to wear a shirt during the day. Everything looks so different. Right now I am on my balcony, this is the first time I’ve been able to just sit out here. It’s sad that now it is finally getting nice, I leave in a few weeks. Man do I appreciate this good weather, when I am in class and look outside and see a sunny sky all I want to do is be outside. Unfortunately now I have to do all my work. Some of my classes only have one test or ... read more

For my Cinematographers Influence class we went to Barrandov studio to see the film processing lab. It was interesting to see though parts still confuse me, the teacher is very confusing. After the tour of the processing part we walked around the studio and saw the area that they are shooting the next 007, though there was no shoot in progress. Most of the shoots have been on location, some of them in Prague. It’s cheap to shoot here so some motion pictures come to Prague to shoot. It was interesting walking around the studio here and comparing it to ones in LA. In Prague it is not kept up well and does not have any aesthetic appeal (in other words, it’s ugly and looks like it's falling apart). I have watched my fair share of ... read more

There is a village about forty miles or so from Prague that is carving out a niche to help the village economy. Some really bright people there have started a dual industry. One is producing "home made" soaps, candles and other items which are sold in a store owned by the village in Prague. To compliment this work they have constructed a medieval village, rather like a Czech Williamsburg. Today Nancy and I accompanied a number of the CAT students on a field trip there, making the round trip by train. It is an interesting place, and is especially interesting for children as they can watch old rifles being fired, shoot real arrows at a target, make or watch rope making, paper making, leatherwork, wod work, blacksmithing, as well as a pottery and other activities. In ... read more

The Czech Republic is crawling with ticks in the woods and grassy areas in the spring and summer. Not the nice big dog ticks (thought they do love dogs too) but the nasty ones that live on deer and are so small you can't see them without a very careful inspection. They are about the size of a tiny freckle. Bill disagrees and says that would be a fat tick that they are the size of a period. Not only do they carry Lyme Disease but also another nasty disease, Encephalitis. There are even posters in the subways and on the trams telling people to get the shot for Encephalitis. Last year we thought the shot we were being encouraged to get was for Lyme Disease. We opted out. The shot for Lyme Disease isn't all ... read more

Ok...so my entries have not been all that frequent and tonight you get two because I have not had picture uploading facilities for quite some time, and that last entry has been saved and waiting for pictures for a while. So now on to the real stuff. :) I believe where we last left off was the Augustiner? Best beer I've ever had...hands down. Not quite as lively as the Hofbrauhaus, though I think the latter is really quite touristy, while the Augustiner is actually a traditional beer hall. And keeping with our routine so far, we managed to make some very weird new friends...a doctor, a cop, and a Felix. Allow me to explain. We were joined at our table by three older guys, who mentioned to us that they were staying in a hospital ... read more
