Happy Birthday Bill
Today was Bills' 71st birthday. He says, "At this age I am always happy to see another birthday. Think of the alternative." Five of the last six birthdays Bill has celebrated his birthday outside the US; four times in Prague and once in Costa Rica. All-in-all he has been outside the country for either 9 or 10 birthdays. He was in Germany two of his birthdays when he was in the Army. He was in Brazil when he turned 30. He may have been in Brazil on another birthday but we cannot remember for sure.
We bought a birthday cake earlier this week and shared it with others at IBTS during the Friday morning coffee break. Anyone on campus is welcome to go to the coffee room for a free cup of coffee, tea or fruit juice at 10:30 each morning.
The sun came out
We have had very little sun in Prague since early November. In fact we heard that in the entire month of December there were only 27 hours of sunshine. January was not much better. So when we got up this morning and saw the sun come up over the
Sarka Valley ridge, well it made us happy. Not only did the sun come up this morning, but the sun shone all day. Yeah!
We needed to do a bit of shopping. Other than that we had no set plans and that often makes a day a good day. Our one idea, other than shopping, was to go to a good Chinese restaurant in the small village of Nebusice. Nebusice is near the seminary and there is a nice grocery store in the same building as the restaurant. However, after shopping and walking around we decided we were too hungry to wait. It would have taken at least half an hour, if not a bit more, to travel by city transportation, subway and then by bus, to reach the village. We were near the National Theater and there is a nice restaurant, the Kavarna Slavia, directly across the street. We decided that was where we would have lunch. The Kavarna Slavia serves traditional Czech food, but also much more. Not only that, but if you are fortunate enough to get a table beside the windows there is a wonderful view of Petrin Hill that lies across the Valtava River.
The Kavarna Slavia
This Kavarna Slavia is across the street from the National Theater.
