Deluxe room - ah, heavenly comfort! The Flight to Europe The flight from Vancouver to Amsterdam was uneventful, dinner offerings where beef or vegetarian pasta. Cabin crew were pleasant, and because it was a night flight we were left alone (or to stare blankly into the dark because I can NEVER sleep). If you wanted water or juice you had to go to the galley and retrieve. I think I like it better that way, especially if you like to get up and stretch, you aren't bumping into a flight attendant.
The flight was smooth UNTIL our descent into Amsterdam, which was encountering a great storm of winds and rain. Now I have to ask myself (and any of you commercial pilots reading this), when you get home for dinner after a day of flying, does your spouse ask you how was your landing today darling? The reason I ask IS, my pilot would have exclaimed, well unfortunately we dropped onto the runway at Schipol from about 20 ft, bounced and dropped again, to which the spouse would say, oh better luck with that tomorrow dear, I hope that the passengers weren't too frightened! OI!!! that was a little freaky, and I have encountered many, many, many landings. I really am not a nervous flier, but it was a bit unnerving! Onto Czech Airlines, B737 from Amsterdam to Prague.....the winds were still high, but we shot into the skies like a rocket and sailed smoothly for the one hour flight to Prague.
Our luggage arrived promptly which is always a bit of a nail biter, especially when you are moving from city to city on a river cruise. Outside, we go to find our Cedaz airport shuttle. Now, I knew that this is the shuttle that I wanted because my husband and I used it last year. It is very inexpensive at 120CZ ($7 CAD) compared to a taxi at 600CZ ($36 CAD). Well, there was a small group of about 20 people waiting, but from last year I knew the van only held 10 people, so when the shuttle arrived 30 freezing minutes later everyone pushed and shoved to get on and Carol and I never made it. We then also realized that even though the sign clearly stated please pay your driver directly, everyone had prepaid at a booth inside.......grrrr, in I went to pay. The next shuttle arrived 10 minutes later and even though we should have been first on, a group of five women from France elbowed us rudely and then proceeded to high 5 each other that they had gotten on the shuttle before us! This was the last shuttle at 7PM and the van left another 5 people behind with tickets in hand, yelling at the driver as we drove away. 😞
Finally we arrive at the Prague Marriott! You know, there are some things that you really need to count on that first night.....a clean, quiet room with a wonderful, comfortable bed, and you can always count on Marriott to deliver. As I tucked myself in, I could only smile and hope that the women from France ended up in some flea (or worse) bitten dive! No I am not bitter, I just can't stand rudeness.
