Today the X1 would get another day off. We would spend our entire day “taking the cure” in the spa town of Karlovy Vary. But first breakfast. Zlatý Sloup didn't offer as big a selection as our German hotels had featured, but it was more than adequate. No soft-boiled eggs but scrambled instead. There were also breakfast sausages and oatmeal to go along with the usual tray of cold cuts and chee... Read Full Entry

The water from this thermal spring wasn't nearly as hot as from the Spring Colonnade, but it was best to let it cool a bit before sipping. I'm not sure the curative properties include treating burns.

We just sat on a bench warm drink in hand watching the continuous flow of people topping off their drinking mugs. Note how different each cup is.

Of all the spa drinking mugs I think ours was the most distinguished. Just the perfect size too. It only held about 4 oz. so we didn't end up stuck having to drink too much of that slimy tasting warm weather.

Sipping all that mineral water made me thirsty. And hungry. Why not stop at a Czech-Italian restaurant for lunch.

By now Gail was getting way into drinking this stuff. It did nothing for me, but she was chugging down a cup of the stuff every five minutes. It tasted like sweat to me.

If it turns the bricks in the fountain brown and corrodes the stainless steel pipes just imagine what it's doing to your stomach lining. I bet it does keep you regular though.

In fact the owners are two twenty-something women. Someone should do a study of what kind of mugs people are buying in Karlovy Vary and how they mirror the buyers' personality.

Gail wanted to delete this picture she accidentally took, but I love it.

Dinner was absolutely delightful. The food was great, the beer excellent and the German couple we sat with were super entertaining. We had such a good time I totally forgot to take any other photos.

Karlovy Vary was the first new locale on our trip. We both loved the place. It was a very walkable town with plenty to experience, see and taste. I'm not sure there's any reason to ever go back however. I feel like we saw everything in town (except Becherovka) at least three times. Maybe as we get older and more decrepit we'll come back to take the cure. Perhaps by then the city will come up with a decent parking plan.
