Our foul weather gear came in handy on Friday when we sailed from Vis to Brac with 15-25 knt winds being generated by swirling thunderheads and the associated rainstorms. Brac is the source of fine white limestone used by the Romans to build Diocletian's palace in Split and can be found in the White House. We stayed in the little port of Pucisca next to the limestone quarry which still produces high quality stone and is the home of a school for stone-masons. There are some interesting limestone structures including intricate streetlamps. Over the weekend the storms have dissipated and the wind diminished so today we motored to Trogir and will spend the day walking the streets of the old town. Trogir has a large market so it's a good place to stock up on fruits, ... read more

Hello from Trogir (Just north of Split) Tuesday the 15th of April. Well I am sitting in my nice warm saloon with the heater running, nice hot cup of coffee, Debsy is tucked up in bed with her coffee and her book and the girls are sound asleep and it is ten past nine in the morning. Any idea what the weather might be like outside?? Listen intently and you can hear the wind howling through the rigging and the sound of rain falling onto the deck, if you try hard you might also feel the boat rocking beneath you. All in all, not one of the nicest mornings we have had. Being very fair though, we are looking out over the very famous town of Trogir, a UNESCO World Heritage Listed site, but more of ... read more

It seems like the last week was destined to be one of unusual occurances.......mostly due to our being a bit over-relaxed in holiday mode I guess. These events started last Saturday when Luke went off to the shop in Sucuraj to buy a new pack of cards (carrying the old ones to make sure he got the right variety). Five minutes later a very drenched (read drowned rat) Luke walks in the door clutching a 20 Kuna note in one hand and a very wet pack of cards in the other declaring 'they don't have any cards'!! What happened we asked.........seems the inevitable happened and he slipped on the edge of the Harbour wall and took a dive. Poor kid...a little bruised but basically OK and lucky he did not crack his head on the way ... read more

Well it has been a while since the last update and it feels like we have been busy but we are maybe just going a bit dozy in the meditteranean air cos I dont think we have done a lot. Swimming and eating seems to occupy lots of our days!!! The main adventure this week was a car trip to the town of Hvar, Stari Grad and Jelsa - Stipe lent us his car (an old beast Opel with no air-con or power steering)! So we set off early tuesday morning for the 70km trip that we thought would take about an hour.......2 hours of hair-raising journey on the narrowest road with absolutely no barriers as it winds 2000m up to the top of the island and then meanders along hairpin bends that plunge the ... read more

We have had a very lazy week in Sucuraj with lots of beach and get together with family and long lunches and diving off the harbour wall (we saw some local kids doing this) and fishing and usual holiday stuff! Spent state-of-origin (it was midday here) basking in the sun on the said harbour wall and waiting with baited breath for regular text updates on the score from Mich! Our deal was that when either team scored we all(except Nan) had to dive off the wall in to the azure Mediterranean (did you like the 'azure' bit?). After a quick 2 plunges it was a long wait till our next and they were sad dives as our beloved Maroons crashed to defeat. We had to saunter over to Bistro Tony in the arvo sun and drown ... read more

We arrived in the resort town of Pescara after a short bus trip (2-3 hr) over the southern fringes of the alps. Even that glimpse of the mountains was amazing and it made me wonder about the northern regions we will see when we pass over them to get to Tuscany via perugia. We pass many villages carved into the hillsides with ancient churches and crumbling fortresses rambling their way up distant peaks. Pescara is very modern and brash with 'clubs' stretching for miles along the sandy beach which is packed with deck chairs under rows and rows of umberellas - interspersed with beach vollyball and tennis courts. Luckily we were met at the bus station by our friendly host Manuel who drove us to our 'retreat' - the converted monastary of Villa Sabelli. It was ... read more

Greetings from the beautiful location of Croatia. I do not know how many people know what Croatia looks like but the entire country is practically a coast. It is beautiful! Have been traveling with 5 friends that I met in Budapest and the friendship is so pure. It feels as though we all have grown up together instead of just meeting a week ago. We have had so many crazy times, so many stories to tell (one including randomly crashing a Croatian bachelor party and awkwardly watching a horrible stripper). Sorry to be so brief but to be honest I dont want to spend time I could be using better! Miss everyone back home. Italy is next as soon as we can figure out how to get there!... read more

Geo: 43.5619, 16.08Today is a sad, sad day as its the last day of summer!! I think the weather will be good for a while still. Spent the morning organizing ferry tickets and accommodation. Then caught the bus to Trogir. 30 minutes later I arrived. The old town is separated from the new town by a little bridge on both sides. The old town is a maze of medieval streets. It is a World Hertiage site. I entered the old town through the North Gate, which has a statue of St Ivan Orsini- the town protector hovering overhead. Wandering about the car free streets I came to a square with the cathedral of St Lovro and a bell tower. I walked up the 47m bell tower and was able to see the whole island of the ... read more
