We got checked into our hotel, Boutique Hotel Kabek, which was beautiful! It was located in the Lapad area of Dubrovnik. Because of their bus system, it's an easy walk to the bus stop and it dropped you off right in front of the hotel. Perfect! I've posted a few pics of the hotel. They had a wedding the night before so it was all decorated with tulle and flowers. Plus they had a pool! It was 90 degrees both days we were there so it was perfect to cool off. We planned another trip into the city to walk the wall and do our own walking tour this day. Tomorrow is a trip over to Montenegro to tour the countryside and see the many yachts and another walled city.... read more

This is our last day on the ship and having to say goodbye to a group of amazing people. We've had a blast everyone has just made our trip just that much better! We ended up taking a walking tour around the old town of Dubrovnik as part of a ship excursion. I wasn't impressed. Perhaps it was the heat but she just wasn't that interesting to listen to. We ended the tour and headed off into the streets to find a bite to eat and a beer. You'd be amazed at the number of pizza shops they have here and they are all good! A side note... the awnings are not just for the sun shade but for the pigeon bombardments that happen frequently. Three times for Ted actually! This last one a double bombing. ... read more

Dubrovnic is a beautiful walled city of dense red roofed houses, palaces, monasteries and churches. Swooping swifts follow you everywhere, particularly first and last thing. It is super crowded but don’t be put off by that, the quietest time is early in the morning, a great time to walk around the city walls, peer down onto lovely gardens that can’t be seen from the streets and appreciate the density and colourfulness of the roofs. A hike up to the top of Sdr mountain (there is also a cable car) also gives great views, this was lovely to do in the evening, watching the sun go down. Lokrum island makes a great half day trip, a 15 minute ferry boat ride from the marina, it’s a small nature reserve with acres of woodland and gardens with an ... read more

Hot humid day. Left ft 7.30 and walked down to the old city and spent the day there. What an amazing place. We walked the castle walls and visited all the amazing viewing spots. By mid morning all the cruising ship tourists arrived in their thousands which is crazy, but we were expecting it and came prepared. This castle is used in the filming of Game of Thrones. Had lunch there and then wandered around to a nearby beach. Got home mid afternoon for a welcome shower and avo tea. Had a light dinner st home. Well this is the last day of of our self guided trip. Tomorrow off to Rome for the start of our bus tour. It will be interesting to compare. ... read more

After a very windy night thii gs finally settled down, as we're had been concerned that we may not have able to sail. However everything went well and we caught a 6.15 bus into town and boarded our ship for Dubrovnik. Had a good trip and called in at several islands to drop off/pickups. I estimate that the ship sails at 40 to 50 knots. Arrived at 12.15 and our host Marijana was there to pick us up and take us to apartment. It's very small but very nice. Beautiful views over harbour and the city. Walked to get supplies from grocery store and then walked to beach. Didn't end up swimming as beaches west the bottom of cliffs, and water was rough. Returned home tired as it's very hot and there is so much climbing ... read more

After an over night stay in Korcula we headed south to the island of Sipan. Last night we stayed on a mooring buoy a few 100m from Kod Marka one of my favourite restaurants and the food was excellent as always. Today is Thursday it must be Dubrovnik. I was last in Dubrovnik in 2010; it's seems much busier and more expensive in part due to the booming tourist trade and in part due to the low Canadian dollar. We had planned to spend 2 nights here, but have decided to move to quieter seas tomorrow morning.... read more

If you count the day most of us left the States, we are ten days into our trip now. It's been very busy, but for some reason I haven't felt like writing, perhaps because TravelPod has shut down, and I don't know if my new vehicle of choice, TravelBlog, has been able to transfer all my entries, maps, and address book. These are all important things I don't want to lose. And, except for long bus rides, our schedule has been quite active, so there hasn't been much time to write. We started in Dubrovnik, called Croatia's crowning jewel, a gorgeous, wonderful ancient city built on the Adriatic Sea. We only had one full day there, not nearly enough time to explore its secrets and riches. A few of us walked on top of the mile-long ... read more

Am prins vreme frumoasa, prea cald pt aceasta perioada. Am preferat sa luam autobuzul sa ajungem in Dubrovnik si astfel la 10 dimineata puteam servi o cafea neagra chiar in centru. We have conquered our second country on the cruise, Croatia! I think both of us would agree that it was better than expected. The water here is a very distinct color of blue that neither of us have seen before. The first stop in Hvar was a small and relaxing island where we did a sailing tour off the boat. The weather was perfect, however with no wind, not ideal for sailing. After motoring around into a small cove, we went swimming and attempted to snorkel however there was not much to look at underwater. Our tour guide then took us to a family owned restaurant where we had some fresh salad and bruschetta that was delicious! We both even went outside the box and tried sardines on our Greek salad! Hvar is known for growing ... read more
