Posting Time: 8:21pm Location: Zagreb We planned to leave Betina on saturday evening. Basically all we did was swimming, eating and napping. What a nice life. We had to head back to Zagreb on saturday evening and I will take the train to Venice on sunday evening. I called Barbara, she wants to go out on saturday night and told me to call her when we get to Zagreb. The drive is 3.5 to 4 hours, we left at 10:30pm. We arrived in zagreb at 2:00am. I went to Papaya to meet up with Barbara and Evan. They are very good host. They wants to get me drunk asap. They kept ordering drinks for me. Papaya is an interesting place. It seems to be a sport club patio on top of the hill. There is some ... read more

Renta and I are hanging out at the internet cafe in downtown Zagreb. Its really hot out today now. Want to hear about my trip here? Sure ya do. When I landed in Toronto we couldnt get off the plane because of a storm. I waited in that bloody plane for three hours. When I finally got off I had 15 min. to get to the next flight here. Needless to say my luggage didnt make it on with me. Now I have one underwear and one sock to get me by until it gets here. Oh well. Jon will like this: Evian water in Vienna is 1.50 euro. Beer is 1 euro. Beer is officially cheaper than water. I noticed in Vienna, everyone was drinking Red Bull. I guess it really is that popular in ... read more

Posting time: Tuesday 8:30am. Location: Zvon's apartment, Zagreb, Croatia. Another lazy day in Vienna, basically I sat in the courtyard and read. I figured this is a good place to be lazy. Besides it is very hot out there. I finally moved my lazy ass and went to a shopping area. Everything seems to be on sale. Diesel store have 50% off for most of the tops and 30% off for the jeans. I would buy some if I am not backpacking. I can't afford the extra weight. {PG-18} I am starting to have a bad habit, I don't get to the train station until 15 mins before the train leave...... not a great idea. Since you don't have time to buy something to eat.....and I like to eat. Anyway, I don't know what to expect ... read more

Bok. The previous pages have pictures now!! Travel update: So I flew from Hamburg and have found myself once again in Zagreb. I have been hanging out here and also, of course, watching soccer. Today we will go to Zvon's hometown of Krizevci for a BBQ with some friends, to watch the Round of 16, and to feed the parrots. A few stories: Last I wrote it was in Hamburg just before heading off to the Fan Fest for the much anticipated Argentina Holland match together with the posse. After purchasing an official World Cup pillow, we made it to the Fan Fest just before the match. I have been to Fan Fest's in 6 cities now but this one was unique in that their food stalls were organized by country. For each country within the ... read more

I got up at nine and went downstairs to try and organise a hire car. The Croatian people we've met so far have been so helpful and friendly. They actually rang the car rental companies for me, and at first it didn't sound like we'd be in luck. Then the girl on reception rang her friend Brancko and put me on the phone and he organised a car. The trouble arranging one was because we wanted to drop the car off in Dubrovnik, and not back in Zagreb. Brancko even said he would come and pick us up, which saved us trying to get all the way out to the airport in the pouring rain. Brancko was a little bit late in picking us up which gave us some time on the internet to look for ... read more

Where to begin? I put some some pictures on the last 2 entries which were previously text-only, so in total there are three with new pics! "Quick" travel update: I finished my stay in Turkey at the tree house in Olympos and made my way to Antalya for my flight in the middle of the night (3:30am) on the 15th. I even got to explore Antalya proper for the day before (the 14th) flying out to Stuttgart, Germany. Landing in the morning, I was met by Allie (friend from UBC, living on and off in Stuttgart) at the airport and hung out with her the entire day and evening until my flight in the morning (the 16th) to Croatia where I was met by Zeljka, another friend from Vancouver (who is actually from Croatia). At the ... read more

We went to the Plitvice Lake National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site 2.5 hrs away by bus from Zagreb. Plitvice is so beautiful, it is like a picture out of a fairy tale. We paid 85 Kuna each (24 SGD) and it includes free shuttle bus and free boat ride. The weather is nice and breezy and we embark on a suggested route round the park which should take us 3-4 hours but in the end it took us 4-5 hrs. The park is so big (there are 16 small lakes) that if you did not invest in a map of the trails round the park, you risk getting lost, which is what happened to us. It is like a labyrinth, we followed the signs but it only led us to the ferry we want ... read more

It is now 6.25 am in Zagreb Buzzbackpacker. btw the website of this nice little hostel is http://www.buzzbackpackers.com/index_en.html. Internet is free and no time limit i suppose, but was always hogged by this angmoh guy. I received my backpack from the ever-so-trustworthy Air France folks (or should i give credit to the lost-and-found folks at Zagreb Airport ?), they delivered it to our doorstep at 10.30 pm last night. I had to return them the receipt and hence did not make any copy of it. Anyway the baggage was delayed for 10.5 hours, so probably cant claim insurance for that. We are going to the Plitvice Lake this morning, 2.5 hr of journey on bus....... read more

After 13 hours of flight from Spore to Paris CDG airport, 3 hours of waiting in transit and another 2 hours of flight, we finally arrive in Zagreb at local time 12 noon, Spore time 6pm. We were tired from having not slept a wink, as the fat african guy sitting beside us was eating non-stop and disturbing our beauty sleep. (yes he was eating non-stop, he brought his own bread and peanut butter when we already had 2 full meals on board the 13 hour flight) So arriving in Zagreb was the happiest thing in 18 hours, but it is without my luggage, that is. Our dear Air France folks had not lugged my TATONKA backpack on board the tiny 50-seater plane to Zagreb and so i was in this lost and found room in ... read more

I have arrived safely in Croatia (about a month ago now…I have been quite lazy updating) …though getting here was a bit tougher than I had imagined. First of all getting out of India was a NIGHTMARE! My flight was scheduled to leave at like 2:30 in the morning, and I had been told to allow plenty of time to get through security, so I figure 2 1/2 to 3 hours would be plenty. Anyway I left about 3 1/2 hours before my flight was scheduled to depart, and of course the hotel car breaks down not even a quarter of the way to the airport. So after they send a new car to come and get me, I arrive at the airport and notice there is a big crowd in front of the terminal. I ... read more
