14/2/2012 Today, I was going with the drama students of class 5 and 6 to Malagne, A place where we were going to stay for the next 3 (school) day and practice our drama for the Spectacle during the Gospel show in a few weeks time. Alain very generously picked up the tab for this trip, and also drove me, Colin and two of her friends all the way down there right in the middle of a Wednesday. When we got there, the first thing I noticed was how freaking huge this building was. Seriously. It had 4 stories, 3 of which were underground, and it was all complete with huge dining rooms, 500 rooms and heaps of conference and random rooms. That night we did a few rotations (each rotation was an hour long), with ... read more

2/3/2012 Its March ! we’re so so busy with rotary activities this month, literally something that we gotta do rotary related on EVERY weekend. This weekend, its on Saturday at 9-12, at a local school hosting a carrers expo for the Vervies area. But tonight, myself, Chris, Eliza, Riley and Morgan decided to have a bit of a get-together so we could all journey there the next morning together. It started in Verviers, where we bought some supplies for the night, and went to a local bar called Beluga. We weren’t there long before we decided we could make better fun ourselves, so journeyed back to Morgans, to find an amazing meal of spag bolg and chocolate pudding her darling host mum made us…. 3/3/2012 An early start for us today, and we headed to the ... read more

20/2/2012 No school today, but I was still in the mind-set that we had a rotary meeting. So off I was to the usual meeting place. However both Eliza, Chris, and Morgan forgot, so I was the only exchange student there this time. It was fine though, because I met two guys that’d just recently come back from a two week exchange in Switzerland and Turkey. They both did mini presentations on how their trip was, and as we sat down to a great 3 course Belge lunch, I got talking to them and found out that they played the drums and the guitar, and had a brother that played the bass. So I got their numbers, and I was stoked to be adding more musicians to my list that I’ll hopefully pull together some sort ... read more

13/2/2012 Today, there was no rotary meeting. It was cancelled for some reason I wasn’t notified about. This basically meant I DIDN’T get out of early Monday school classes, get to drive to the clubhouse, have an amazing 3 course Belge lunch, and hang out with Chris Riley and Eliza while the rest of school was in class, while we were savouring sweet Belge crepes. You can imagine my sadness. 14/2/2102 Not much to note from today, apart from the fact I was dragged into this kind of musical performance where I play guitar for a choir at some point this year. So that’s all good. Missing my Strat and Deluxe Reverb so much at this point, where I’m playing through and amp that’d you’d be likely to find one of similar quality as one at ... read more

Today is usually reserved for the rotary exchangers weekly visit to Le Carre, but as it rolled around the time to go, I was just so knackered, along with the fact I had some work to do, emails to reply to, and a song to learn. So remembering the fact that it happens EVERY Friday, I decided not to go this week and catch up on some missed sleep. It was totally worth it, and sleeping most of the day away after doing a few jobs at home gave me the energy to get through the rest of the week. 9/2/2012 The worst day of the week I’ve come to realise. Reasons ? When you’re already a perpetually tired exchange student, any time off is a treasure, and given high value. So after a half day ... read more

30/1/2012 Today I woke up around 9 or 10 I guess, and upon opening the wonderfully pink curtains in my bedroom, I was greeted by a yard full of snow, covering all the roof’s nearby, and all in all a pretty magic looking scene. I took off downstairs and began taking pictures from the comfort of the house of the glistening exterior. Following lunch, Clara and I headed out into the snow, and took a sled around to one of the nearby hills to have a few runs down. I couldn’t resist taking a bunch of photos as the sheer beauty of masses of snow covered objects everywhere, coupled with the frosted landscape. I had a go at rolling down the hill after a demonstration form Clara, and at around this time the sub zero chill ... read more

After waking up today, after a much needed sleep in, I began preparation for out first orientation weekend being hosted in Belgium. Here, we’d meet all of the current inbounds who’d already been here for 6 months, who were known as the ‘oldies’, and also all of the new inbounds from parts of the world such as Mexico, Argentina, South Africa, Australia, Brazil and the US of A. We met everyone in the foyer of the Chaussee de Wegimont, which is a beautiful old castle like building, complete with a moat and everything. It was awesome. From there, we did the rules and regulations talk, and an update about the rules surrounding a popular student hangout at a place called ‘the carre’ in Leige, which is basically a tonne of bars and clubs in the centre ... read more

Getting up today, I felt amazing. No more yuck airline food, snorers or the constant whirr of jet engines. Breakfast was bread with this amazing tasting spread that tastes just like Dutch waffles (or Starbucks cameral waffles). By the time I got up it was around 12, and me and my host mum Sonia, went into Verviers to buy a cell phone, get my bus passes and report me to the social services. Verviers has a lot of old style English style buildings I guess, with narrow streets and a lot of infrastructional work going on. It’s crazy, you can pay your parking meter by text, something I’d never seen before. My cash passport card wasn’t accepted in the cell phone shop, so tomorrow we go to the bank to set me up an account I ... read more

I had the chance to be able to have a vacation last month. My friend invited me to stay in his apartment while i am in Belgium. So as i arrived in Belgium, he brought me to his humble apartment. The city is so nice and quiet. It was called Louvain-La-Neuve. I was lucky to have a nice weather while I am in Belgium. Its already autumn but the weather is still like summer. People around are always having barbecue, having fun outside, picnic in the park, reading a book under the sun and just having a chat with a friend or family under the sun. So for me, I was able to have a walk with my friend around the city, to know the surroundings. The surroundings, like the housing is a bit looks the ... read more
