Hello again pleasant people poised on poetry prosed by the Postmodern penmanship of Mr. Pagan! haha, its always nice to start with alliteration humour.. So, as i write this im on about the 7th day of an intended two night sleepover at my first couchsurfing place, i just cant seem to leave! but more on that a little later. first things first, i think i left you all with a perhaps slightly negative vibe on my travels (as mum so passionately observed), but dont fret because young brave lachlan doesnt get sad or weary or disgruntled, he just gets deep is all.. artists thrive on that stuff dont they? haha.. so anyway, Biarritz in France ended up being a beautiful place, but another town filled with a slightly ageing population. Erin and I invited a young ... read more

I hope you are thinking "My God! That is a long way!" because you would be correct. it is a long way. The day before last, I had written a great (at least I´d like to think) entry. But my time ran out and so it didn´t save like I thought it had. It was good. An actual blog. Or at least something of substance. Or maybe I just thought the writing was better, more like I´d like it to be...oh well. I´m in Ghent, Belguim - about a 20 minute train ride from where I started this silly trip close to three months ago - waiting, hoping, praying that the plan to stay with a friend of a friend pans out sucessfully. This morning, I was in Amsterdam. what a great city. AND it really ... read more

Allright so we drove from Brussels to Ghent. Once we arrived, we visited the tourist center and then went into St. Bavo's Cathedral. We saw the famous Lamb of God painting by the Van Eycke brothers. We went down into the Crypt. They had old Bishop's robes down there. It was odd seeing so many people buried in the church. It was beautiful though. I enjoyed walking through. They had neat statues and things and paintings to look at. I left there and saw the square with a neat fountain. We grabbed some hot chocolate and then took a horse and carriage ride through the city. It was pretty. They had several old buildings including an old fish market, a butcher's hall, a freemason's guild house, a tax house, and the belfry tower. We stopped for ... read more

Today, first went to Ghent.... Nice University town....Brugge was better though. Not a lot of must sees and the Gothic buildings were right in the market place so it cant be missed ne. Then went to the industrial design museum....had some pretty coool displays going on!!!! wanted to own like half of the stuff inside!!! like some wacky looking vaccum cleaner, oldold Siemens toaster oven...etc! haaaaaaa! Then there werent other museums to see so I took the train back to Brugge, to visit the Chocolate Museum I missed last time! It had a lot of history on cocoa...and how the different chocolates are made and stuff....pretty interesting=) but not as fun as I thought it would be ne.... DOne that and quickly took the train back to Ghent again to finish the unseen sights! haaaaa...just another ... read more

Hey everyone!! 6 beautifull weeks in Belgium, and again ready to leave! KAlu is still in Colorado, but in a few days we will both be in KAthmandu again! I had a great time here, not only because I had a beautifull new niece (the third, and a fouth niece/nephew on the way), but it was also nice to see everyone back, and to spend time with the family! And that is what I did, family, friends, and the most ... a lazy time doing nothing but spoiling myself. I needed it after 3 busy months in the US!! And it was a great time there too! Lot's of work, KAlu got so many trips, good season, good weather, good water, and the owners of the company bought a beautifull place from where AAE is gonna ... read more

Our first encounter in Belgium and we wander into a plaza on a Sunday aftenoon in Antwerp to be greeted by a Flemish Elvis impersonator. Just as impressive as it sounds. Firstly, I don't understand the whole phenomenon of the Elvis impersonation genre. Secondly, if you are going to do it, at least try and do it well. The Elvijk Preslijk we saw was a shocker. He'd struggle for a gig at Cronulla RSL. Five minutes into Belgium and the busker bar had been set awfully low. Ten minutes later and the Flemish belly dancer was trying very hard to lower that bar even further. Even more astounding was the number of people hanging around applauding. Ridiculously bad busking aside, Antwerp is not a bad city, in fact a lot of fun for the few hours ... read more

Edward told me to bring my passport ... and that's all I needed.... He'd packed a bag and we were on our way to Waterloo Train Station when I guessed where we were heading.....one of my favourite European countries.....Belgium.....the land of beer and chocolate!! Edward had treated us with first class on the Eurostar...so we enjoyed a champagne brunch and nice comfy seats and service for our 3 hours to Brussels. I love the Eurostar....it's so much better than flying....seeing the English countryside, then 20mins in the tunnel under the English Channel, through France and over the border to Belgium. Arrived at 'The Ghent River Hotel', our home for the next 4 days, then spent the afternoon exploring the lovely small town of Ghent. Found a nice little restaurant where we had a Hoegaarden (or ... read more

GhentJulie J Vanover I came into Brussels on the night train from Berlin and headed to Brugge where I was staying. I got to my hostel but I couldn't get into my room until after 2 o'clock so I decided that since I didn't have a home I would take a day trip to Ghent and really feel homeless. I arrived in Ghent and finally found the tourist information office and got a map. The lady asked my nationality and gave me the map and showed me where I was. I moved over to the side to find what I wanted to see and the lady asked me if I wanted a walking tour. I said I would love one, she said that she usually didn't offer it to Americans because they weren't ever interested. When ... read more
