Got off to a pretty slow start today after a late night out. Took care of some CS stuff and took a little stroll around their neighborhood and around a nearby park. I saw this pretty cool castle looking building nestled into this neighborhood that looked kind of out of place there. So I asked my hosts what purpose that building serves and it's a prison! Only in a country like this would you see a beautiful hundred year old building being used to hold felons. Probably pretty nice digs.

One of the things that's cool about Brussels is that it is a completely international city since as I mentioned before it is the home of the EU. I am not sure if this is true but someone told me that 60% of the people who live here aren't even Belgian and I kind of get that feel. It definitely makes a nice environment for the World Cup since you have thousands of fans for every country here. We ended up spending the afternoon at an Irish pub with a bunch of their friends watching their game. The Brazil-Holland game was crazy. Half the bar was Dutch and the other

how the belgians treat their felons. yep, that's a prison
half were Brazilian and we just sat there being entertained by how insane these people were acting. It was fantastic and the quality of the game certainly helped this. The second game was even better as we all got swept up rooting for Ghana. That guy missing the penalty that would have put his country somewhere they have never been before was one of the most heart breaking things I have seen in sports. The bar was just stunned like someone had died or something. Quite a 180 from the environment a bit earlier. Anyways, it was cool hanging out with a bunch of people who were as caught up in the World Cup as I was and even cooler being surrounded by people who were treating these games like life or death.

Everyone was pretty exhausted after last night and today was one of the hottest days they have had in a while to add to it so not much of note to add to an already pretty pedestrian day. Was a pretty nice break and we'll pick up the tourist activities with a day trip out to Bruges tomorrow, supposedly the crown jewel of the country. I'm
