On Tuesday 22nd July it was Stefan's birthday as well as the 1st birthday of Prince George, so the day started with presents and cards and ended with champagne.

Overnight we had sailed to Vienna so after breakfast we were coached on a sightseeing tour around the city. Tomas our guide was very good but it was rather an overview going around the Ringstrasse, the main road around the city taking in the Opera House, Parks, elegant houses and galleries. It is an attractive city but being famous for it's art and music, I think these are the sights one should see. I was glad I had been inside the galleries and seen the work of Gustav Klimt, which Vienna has some wonderful examples of. After the coach tour we disembarked and followed Tomas around the area where the Spanish riding school and main cathedral are. Here he let us loose on our own to stop for a beer, go inside the cathedral and do a bit of shopping before walking us back to the coach. I had been to Vienna twice before and had completely different experiences in every visit. The city really needs a few days to walk around and see all the interesting bits but we only had a morning to get an over view.

In the evening the staff sang Happy Birthday to Stefan and gave him a cake.We were also sitting on a lovely table of people so that made it more special.

After dinner we were coached once more into the city. This time we attended a concert hall to hear the music of Mozart and Strauss as well as hear opera and see ballet. It was an excellent performance and the acoustics in the concert hall were very good- a lovely treat for the birthday boy. There are hundreds of concert halls in Vienna. It considers itself the city of music so it is well worth attending one if you can.

The cathedral was meant to have 2 towers but they ran out of money so it is a lot shorter than the other one
