Rafters!
The group that went whit water rafting! Finally! The day I’ve been waiting for - white water rafting!!! We got up and left at 7:45. Surprisingly, I didn’t have a hangover! Most people made it on time, but there were a few stragglers today.
We drove a while then made a service stop in Lichtenstein. It was a very artsy place. There was art everywhere you looked. Beautiful pictures on the sidewalk, sculptures on every corner. I finally got to try a kebab. I have heard so much about kebabs- and we’ve tried (unsuccessfully) to find an open kebab shop after several late nights! Ha ha. Anyway, a kebab is a sandwich-type thing. It was pretty good, but not as great as I anticipated, given all the hype it received!
We got to Austria and the rafting place around 1pm. It was mostly cloudy and the sun poked through occasionally. The scenery was beautiful. We were in a low-lying river surrounded by mountains. I had a fun group- Nick, Phil, James, Rios, George, Adrian, and Greer. Anyway, the rafting was so much fun! The water was SO FREAKING COLD! It was all just runoff from the mountains! Anyway, we had to carry our raft as a
Raft
My raft! group about a quarter of a mile or so…and it got really heavy after a while! Once we got the raft down to the river, we had to jump into the water before we could get in the raft. After the initial shock it wasn’t THAT bad….but it was still pretty dang cold! We got in our raft and our sexy guide was telling us all about the Inn River. The guide actually travels the world teaching rafting! He has gone all over New Zealand, Oz, the States, and South America. It sounds like a pretty cool gig. Anyway, he was telling us how to be safe, and made us practice saving someone who falls into the water. We actually had to jump into the water, swim back, and then act like we needed help getting back in! It was amusing. We went through several series of rapids and several relaxing straits. We also stood on the side of the raft, with our oars in the middle of the raft. Balancing was a treat…but we all ended up doing it. We did a standing spin through one of the sets of rapids, which was pretty cool. We also survived numerous
Innsbruck
So pretty! splash attacks and bombardments from other groups. The current in the river was pretty strong, so whenever we were told we could jump in it took quite a bit of effort to swim back to the raft. We went through some good rapids toward the end of our trip. Our guide had to yell at us to “GET DOWN!!!!” It was fun watching our raft bend in half! The trip was a nice mixture of relaxing and enjoying the beautiful scenery and having fun on the river. I’m so glad I did it….I can’t wait to go again!
After the rafting, we all had to do a shot of schnapps, which, for the record, tasted nothing like the schnapps we have at home. Whew, that stuff is strong! We had a bit of time to change and straighten up before driving about twenty minutes to the lovely town of Innsbruck.
Innsbruck is a very nice combination of modern and old. After seeing the Golden Roof (which isn’t really made of gold), we had free time to wander. I ate a nice, rich tortellini. It was really good! We did some shopping, and wandered around the world’s largest Svoroski
Innsbruck again
Such a beautiful town! store. The shop was full of some sparkly things….I didn’t buy anything because I’m not a huge jewelry person. We basically just had a few hours to wander, explore, and see anything we could in the lovely town of Innsbruck.
Our hotel tonight is in Innsbruck. It’s a cute little hotel with an attached bar. We are having a theme party tonight, and it’s a “p” party. So whatever we dress up as needs to start with the letter “p!” It should be interesting…With this group it always is! I really don’t know what I am going to be…I didn’t find anything in Innsbruck, and I don’t know if I have anything that starts with “p” in my suitcase!
I took a nice nap this afternoon. I decided I didn’t want to go to the “p” party. All of this drinking and non-stop being around people was starting to wear on me! I need some Kristy time!
Never mind, I went to the party. I didn’t have a “costume,” so I went as a party pooper. I really did plan on staying up in my room, but once I had a few people coming up to my
Golden Roof
There ya have it! room (repeatedly) I decided to go. People brought drinks up to the room for me, so I decided I should just head down. It was fun, I’m glad I did. I hung out with lots of different people at the party - it was nice to get to know more people. Most of the girls on the trip went as pirates. They looked great! A group of boys went as Popeye. Vegas Paul was a very realistic Preacher. There were some boys who were pixies/poofs...and tons of great costumes! Jesse and I knocked down a few “sperm shots” (strange name, I know, just see the pictures). Jimmy and I did a shot with the bartender (who showed us a way to do shots….Apparently you hold it one way if it’s before midnight, and one way after midnight. Strange...but kinda cool...even though I don't remember how to do it. Josh passed out super early (at the bar) so people decorated his face with a Sharpie. The poor kid had a penis drawn on about every inch of his face. Everyone had a great night!
The boys and I decided to try and find a McDonald’s. I tried sneaking up on
moo
One of the many artsy things in Lichtenstein. them as I was coming down the stairs to meet them. As I jumped down the last three stairs, my flippies came out from under me and I ended up on my ass. It was hilarious. We ended up not even attempting to find food.
