So I made it! After all these months of planning and talking about it, and despite the many ifs, but's and maybe's that I was faced with in the last couple of months before I left, I finally landed in Vienna airport at 3.10pm on Friday 19th September 2014, and my Year abroad adventure had begun! Having had the luxury of Dad coming to Gatwick airport with me that morning and directing me around the London underground and train system, my first challenge was navigating my own way from Vienna airport into the city (about 30 mins away). However thanks to some very useful instructions from a past assistant and the ease and reliability of the public transport in Austria, this was surprisingly easy and I met Claudia, my american friend who is also working as ... read more

Of course the day we leave Vienna is the day we wake up to clear blue skies. Today was beautiful and I am, of course, burnt again. We discovered yesterday that Schloss Belvedere was 4 minutes away from our hostel, so we wandered there this morning. What with the blue skies, gorgeous buildings, fountains, the Sun and gardens, it was a relaxing and pretty morning of tourism. We had to pay to go in so we didn't bother but just the outside was great too. Then back to get our rucksacks which I swear weighs more every time I put it on. We had to change at Wien Meidling and Bruck an der Mur and the stretch between the latter and Graz Hauptbahnhof had some of the most idyllic, picturesque and beautiful views I have ever ... read more

Olin ostanut jo Suomesta lipun klo 12.03 Graziin lahtevaan junaan. Vasta paakadulta loysin tutun Austria Bankin automaatin. Keskustaan kavellessani poikkesin kahvilla. Oopperatalon edessa oli menossa ralliajo. Ilokseni huomasin etta ydinkeskustassa sai ajaa ilmaiseksi ratikalla 3 pysakinvalia. Olisin muuten kylla ostanut lipun ja ajanut kokemuksen vuoksi jonkin patkan ratikalla. Kavin syomassa vanhassakaupungissa. Sitten hetken mielijohteesta kiipesin maelle. En sitten ehtinyt enaa ajoissa ottamaan kuvaa erikoisesta sillasta. Hotellin laheinen nettila oli taynna 45 minuuttia ennen sulkemista, joten menin takaisin keskustaan toiseen paikkaan, jossa kerkesin olla 20 minuuttia. Yhteys Travelblogiin ei toiminut. I left Nove Zamky today and headed off to Graz, Austria and it was a nice day until I got about 30 miles out of Bratislava and it started pouring buckets of rain. It was insane worst rain I had encountered along my whole trip and I really wanted to stop in Bratislava and see the city but the rain was so bad I didn’t want to go around navigating in it because it is a pain in the butt when you have no clear place to go just wandering around. So I decided to just carry on with my ride to Graz and now I have an excuse to come back to Slovakia. I took a pretty nice ride along the way it was very scenic and that is what I was looking for so ... read more

Ossiach, Friesach, Graz in Austria 19 and 20 July 2013 After leaving Slovenia, going through Italy for a short distance then entering Austria, it reminded us how beautiful Austria is also. It’s features are the mountains (snow fields) and the major cities. We drove through Villach, Feldkinchen, St Veit an der Glan and then onto Friesch where we stopped for a few hours. Friesach is known for its old, moated town. We drove into the town at 12MD and it was extremely quiet. We parked in the town’s main square and found the Information Centre. They gave us a map so off we went. We saw the Palace which was now being used as a theatre, the castle, which is now a restaurant and museum at the top of the hill, and many different ruins. The ... read more
