Alps
Houses nestled in the hills all over the place Today after breakfast we boarded the bus from our hotel in Austria to cross the border into Germany then back into Austria. So it was confusing as to where we were all day. The drive to Hitler's Eagles Nest was beautiful. Unfortunately when we got to the top of the mountain a bank of fog rolled in and we didn't get many great pictures. I thought some of the pictures were interesting because of the fog. The Eagles Nest is unbelievable. It cost 14 million to build, was a gift from the Nazi party to Hitler for his 50th birthday, and he didn't go there often because he was afraid of heights. It was paid for by the taxpayers and supporters of the Nazi Party.
Once we left there we went the town of Berchtesgarten, Germany. We had some free time to walk around and take pictures. We went to a beautful church and tried out some German pastries. Every little town of village here has beautiful churches. Many of them are very old dating back several hundred years. Many are decorated in the baroque style and are beautiful. Unfortunately many do not allow photographs to be taken.

More houses drove on through the Alps to Salzburg - birthplace of Mozart and home of the Von Trapp family (Sound of Music). I was so disappointed to learn that we were to late to take the Sound of Music tour and that many of the sites are out of the city. We did however get to take a carriage ride around historic Salzburg and we all enjoyed it very much. We stopped at an outdoor cafe for cappachino. We decided that we nee3ded a snack because we really didn't eat much for lunch. I ordered mozzerella toast...which we had determined to be pizza. It looked very good but when Larry took the first bite it was still frozen in the middle. We got a laugh because we didn't plan to fly all the way to Europeand ride a bus from Amsterdam to Austria just to eat frozen french bread pizza. it was however pretty good once it was cooked all the way through.
Once we left Salzburg we headed back toward the hotel. We stopped at a small village tavern for dinner. It was a medieval type place with long wodden tables and benches. We had some kind of cream

Churches in every village soup..very good, salad, and the main entree was barbeque ribs. The food was delicious but the presentation was incredible. The ribs were served on a slab of wood with rustic knives stabbed through the sections of ribs with a lighted sparkler. What a neat place. Dessert was chopped up pancakes with powered sugar and applesauce with berries. Next door was a church that was built in the 10th century. It was beautiful inside. After our meal we were all ready to return to the hotel for much needed rest. Tomorrow we star back through Germany toward France and Belguim. We have another week to go!
