Salzburg

Relax! I wouldn't subject anyone to that. There will be none of me singing like they do on the Sound of Music, although I wouldn't deny a hum here or there while surrounded by the mountains of Salzburg.

We had a great time in Salzburg, it's a small city, easy to get around, beautiful landscape, and even the weather was in full cooperation.

As soon as we arrived at our hotel, which I will discuss in a moment, we headed to the grocery store, bought a few beers and some Mozart Chocolate Balls and sat on the river for a few hours, relaxing, talking, and skipping rocks. (Who do you think was the best at that?) Mozart Balls have great chocolate outside (no corn syrup, real sugar, and much better tasting than typical American chocolate) with a nutty nougat/marzipan inner core. As for skipping rocks, I must say Maria exceeded my expectations, I knew she was the right girl for me! Generally speaking, Salzburg has a great feel for relaxing in a smallish/medium sized city, we liked it.

Accommodations

The Star Inn Hotel, Salzburg, was a 3 star hotel that flirted with 4. The rooms had hardwood floors, modern bathrooms, comfortable beds, flat screen TVs, showers with great water pressure, free wifi, one computer with internet, and a helpful staff who spoke English very well - Maria made a great pick. (Note: The hotel is not walkable from the train station, but it's an easy ride on bus #1 and consider the 24 hour bus pass for 5 Euros.

The second presidential debate

We stayed up until 3AM to watch Obama and McCain go at in with each other with attacks, snickers, and a lack of details. It was disappointing, but it almost felt like we were back home.

Unterberg
For some amazing views, great hikes, and if you're looking to challenge your fear of heights with a cable car ride that will make your heart skip a beat I recommend Unterberg. Bus 25 takes you there, it's the last stop.

Alpamare, Bad Tolz Germany

We made a day trip to what has to be one of the biggest and best water parks and spas in Europe, Alpamare. I had once been here many years ago when I was probably 15 or so and it was just as great as I remember. It has 6 or so Pools and spas indoors and outdoors, a wave pool, a solarium, massages, exciting water slides, good restaurant, and a spectacularly rad static endless wave to go body boarding on. If you like swimming, spas, water slides, or relaxing this is the place.

So Long...
