It has been raining a lot over night, but by the time we got up, most of this had dried up. Got up this morning to find two huge cruise ships parked in the other side of the harbour from our apartment. That means the local area is going to be busy today. Getting a taxi anywhere may be hard. Early morning start today, as we are going to a complex orientation meeting at 8.30 by the pool then breakfast. Didn’t learn much from the meeting, but did ask the lady about purchasing a suitcase and she gave us directions to the local K Mart department store. One suitcase badly damaged on way here from Miami. After the meeting, we had a hearty breakfast then obtained some photos of the hotel ready for the blog. We ... read more

Thought we would try out breakfast at the pool bar this morning. The pool is just by reception, so we had to climb the stairs first so were ready for some food. It was already about 28 degrees by the time we got there at about 9.30am and the only table in the shade were at the bar, so we sat there and made friends with the barman. It was a very reasonably priced meal freshly cooked. We will be doing this again. A quality unrushed breakfast. We walked back down the stairs only to find that for some strange reason our key had stopped working. The only office on the complex is at the top, so we had to walk all the way back to the top to get it sorted. Afterwards we decided that ... read more

Had an early start today as we had to be back at the airport for 0600 for our first flight of the day to Miami. The Bahamas are very American, but not actually part of USA, so before we boarded the flight we had to go through all USA customs security checks. George particularly was selected for extra security checks. When we had cleared out the fridge in the apartment this morning, there were still some grapes left. We though these would be nice to eat at the airport whilst we waited for the plane, but because they are on the list of restricted items, we were not allowed to do this. This then prompted customs to check our other bags to make sure we had nothing else we should not have had. Everything else was ... read more

Where are we now? We have left Culebra finally after being there for over a week. We enjoyed our time in Puerto Rico, but we started to get antsy waiting for the seas to calm down some so we could move on. We left Culebra with two other boats that we have been traveling with on and off since the Bahamas. We traveled to St. Thomas which is one of the US Virgin Islands. For those of you that are not aware, the USVI are made up of St Thomas, St. John and St. Croix. These islands were purchased from the Danish in 1911. On this trip we plan to visit two of the three. Our first stop was St. Thomas at Lindbergh Bay where we joined up with 2 other boats that we had been ... read more

In May of 2008 we stayed at the Ritz Carlton in St. Thomas and I took a day trip to St. John with another guest (Chris Madden, world famous designer) on the Lady Lindsey Catamaran. Since then we had been curious about St. John so we decided to stay a week at the Westin and look the island over. We arrived via US AIR (first class with miles) on St. Thomas and were met by the Westin staff and quickly transported by shuttle then ferry to the hotel. Make sure your booking includes transportation through the hotel to the hotel dock as this was quick, and efficient. We booked the package through US AIR vacations as I have found it impossible to beat a vacation package with all the tax and so on included versus booking ... read more

St. Thomas Woke early and headed to the Windjammer for breakfast, fruit and smoked salmon for me. Arrived at St. Thomas at 11:00 and watched as the Captain slid the Freedom in between the Norwegian Epic and a Carnival Ship. It’s really amazing how easy it seems to maneuver this vessel with it’s azipods. By 11:30 we were off the ship and on our way for a tour of the Island and some beach time. The weather was overcast but that didn’t affect the beautiful views. The island is very developed with many properties for sale or half built. We saw two more cruise ships moored at the other pier for a total of five ships in port. Charlotte Amalie must be a zoo today. I waved to Linda & Ed on St. Croix, somewhere off ... read more

We had karaoke again last night at back deck, we had so much fun!!! I went to the spa for a treatment in the morning. Priscila, Nathi, Oscar, Enrique (Mexico) and I went to Paradise point again, had some nice lunch up there, Paradise point has the most stunning view! It was a little sad though, because it was the last time we were at that port before we cross over to the Med. After Paradise point we all went to Senor Frogs. Senor Frogs (Restaurant) is basically in every port, so we always go to them, just to experience all of them. We swam in the pool, had a cocktail, and then we had to go back to work again. ... read more

19 Feb : Miami I went out to downtown Miami, I spoke to my brother Juan, but he was working, so we couldn't meet, will hopefully meet next week Sunday. There are crew shuttle busses that take you to and from the Port. I bought a phone and a simcard to use onboard. I also got some prices for a laptop so that i can finally load some pictures on my blog and Facebook for you all to see. We were very busy at work! The next two sea-days were crazy, non-stop guests from 8am to 10pm. The water was quite rough, and for the first time I felt a little sea sick. I am struggling a little with back pain from the hours that we work, but I had acupuncture after our second sea-day, and ... read more

The next day we were at La Croix – pron. La Croy to Americans who do after all call main courses entrees!. Arriving in to the wharf at Frederiksted at the West end of the long/thin island. It was formerly a Danish territory and they sold it to the US for $50M. in gold in about 1918 I think. I did a 4 hr tour there for $70 which was definitely not worth it. We drove for about 25 mins and hauled up at some well known golf course designer course – for 20 mins?? A gift shop? (I think it was actually a “pro shop” so no use to ‘normal’ people). And we hardly needed a toilet stop quite yet! Asked for comments at the end I piped up that they should reduce the time ... read more

Restos, épiceries, ... read more
