Saint Thomas, US Virgin Islands
Capital is Charlotte Amalie

Weather overcast and looks like rain. Up early and breakfast at the buffet to get ready for our first excursion.

Interesting day. Our tour bus is really a converted pickup truck with bench seating in the bed with narrow steps cut in the side to get in and a makeshift roof on an open frame. Did have roll down plastic windows to keep the rain out. Narrow roads and they drive on the left side, wild drivers and some light rain. Island is very lush with vegetation. Trip to top of highest mountain on the island and enjoyed the views. Three ships in port. Could see quite a few of the other islands. Dropped off in town to see the sights and shop. Taxi back to the ship for lunch and our next tour, a submarine ride.

The weather has cleared and with a blue sky, we boarded a small boat for a half-hour ride to Buck Island where we boarded the Atlantis Submarine. The submarine goes down between 90 and 150 feet to see a reef. There were two scuba divers in the water to put on a

show and feed the fish. Lots of fish with yellow tails. Very interesting but at that depth everything is in blue tones, there is no other color except yellow. Back to the surface and another ride back to the ship.

Met our tablemates for the first time. We ask for a table for 6 or 8 but they assigned us to a table for 4. Our dinner partners were Tim and Sharie from Salt Lake City, Utah. We found out later they were really from Spanish Fork, UT but felt it was easier to say Salt Lake because no one would know where Spanish Fork was. They appeared to be in their 50s and seemed nice so we decided to keep what we were assigned. Enjoyed talking with them each night so it worked out.
