After six trips around the world in just over two years, Elise and I finally chose a home. How did we decide? Where did we end up? Well, lets start with the master list -- over the last year we have considered: Vancouver, Canada London, England Bali, Indonesia Las Vegas, USA Los Angeles, USA Cape Town, South Africa Singapore, Singapore Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Vancouver -- I have lived in Vancouver before and it is one of my favorite cities in the world. Another consideration was that Elise, who is English, wanted to have the option to work, particularly if I would still be traveling and speaking around the world from time to time. I have been fortunate enough to have traveled to the Turks and Caicos Islands twice, both times to the island of Providenciales. The first trip was a family vacation. The island chain is just a bit south of the bahamas, not technically in the caribbean. This was a spring break trip but the weather was certainly tropical. We had some evening storms and one day when the wind was blustery but otherwise pleasant conditions. We stayed at the Ocean Club West a condo resort on Grace Bay which stretches for several miles. The beach is wide and sandy with fairly calm waters. Because it is a sandy bay there's not much to see when snorkelling off the beach but it is nice for swimming and you can see the occasional sand dollar even in 17 feet ... read more

Wendy & Katie checking in - As sad as we were to end our time on Abaco, Turks & Caicos welcomed us in grand style. We arrived on the beautiful island of Providenciales (Provo to the locals), and we were picked up at the airport and taken to the West Bay Club for our two day break to recharge our batteries for our last week of this life changing experience. We spent most of our break chatting and trying to put into words how this experience has impacted our lives, but found it challenging to express it even to each other. Georgetown is often referred to as Chicken Harbor, seeing that it is the southernmost point that most cruisers travel. It is here that boats either turn back and return to the U.S. (the chickens) or continue south to the Caribbean Islands (the brave sailors). Last year we turned back but this year we are pushing on south, determined to bring the Rum Runner to Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, as well as the Windward and Leeward Islands. Although this is an uphill battle, we have to wait for the right weather conditions to travel against the trade winds (25-30 knots dead on the nose from here on out- fun, fun!)
