According to the great Hindu epic ‘Ramayana’, Denali is believed to be the time when Lord Rama defeated and killed the evil King Ravana and after passing a period of fourteen years in exile returned to his capital Ayodhya on a new moon day of the Kartik season with wife Sita and brother Lakshman. Everyone we passed during the evening wished us a “Happy Divali” and we returned the wishes.

People throughout the village provided “gifts” to those that passed. They were homemade “sweets” which we enjoyed as well.

Any souveniers that we get must be small or immediately useful on the boat. We are very pleased with our pillow covers as a souvenier of Divali.
