Barbados
Pebble Beach after a "Cuz" sandwich. This trip started for us in Feb of 2014 when we left Toronto. We have decided to become deaf to news of the weather there since we left. We still have 8 days left of our 5 week trip to the Caribbean.
We are a mid 60's couple and are by no means newcomers to travel or to this region of the globe. This time around we started out "less stress" trip in
Barbados. Although we have very close friends there with whom we would usually live for as long as we want, we decided to rent a villa as well as a car and to act like tourists. For us this means wearing the Tilley hat and carry the cameras everywhere. Needless to say we could do that for only two days before the stress of urban like living began. We found the local groceries, markets, street food and fruit venders that satisfied what we needed. Of course it was cheaper to cook our own meals from time to time. Barbados has many restaurants and eateries, all with good food, but not cheap by any means. Of course if a traveler wants the obviously familiar, burgers, KFC, steak etc,

Bequia morning it is available. We usually find a street eats and places that sell local wholesome food. Places where the locals eat and from which the tourists retreat. Lately however our secret places have been revealed.
A tasty freshly cooked fish sandwich, called a fish cutter, can be bought at
"CUZ's" fish stand. It is strategically located on a calm spectacular south coast beach between the Hilton and the Raddison hotels. lt is a busy spot now frequented mostly by tourists. Buy your sandwich and a beer, sit on the sand and enjoy. Dont expect conversation from Cuz. He runs solo, looks gruff, but that's just his exterior. I have had interesting political and sociological conversations with Cuz when he was not busy attending to a long line of hungry or curious lunch breakers. Cuz is now famous.
in Speightstown The menu is the equivalent of Bajan soul food. located right beside the Speightstown Fish Market. Get there by 12.30 or miss the good stuff. You carry your own tray of food to your shaded picnic table. Don't let the surly faces of the staff or the owner distract

Healthy Breakfast of tree ripened fruit.. you. For the most part Barbados is an urbanized country with a high level of literacy. The citizens know more about your geopolitical road map than you will ever know of theirs.
