In November of 2014, I felt the New Year creeping up on me fast. I wanted to do something different than the traditional countdown at my uncle's house. I wanted to get away, and go somewhere I haven't gone before. And I did just that. Spending the New Year of 2015 in Puerto Rico, has to be my favorite New Year's celebration thus far. I was able to travel with my very own tour guide! My boyfriend, Adrian, born and raised in the island of Puerto Rico, was able to plan our entire trip and help maximize our time there. I told my friend Harper I was headed to Puerto Rico. He mentioned that he had visited Puerto Rico many times and loved it. Harper insisted I do the following while in Puerto Rico: 1. Stay in Old San Juan mostly while in Puerto Rico. 2. Visit Ponce in the south. 3. Try the Water-Bread. 4. Try the Black Beans and Rice (at Hotel El Convento (former convent)). 5. Visit the Rainforest 6. Visit the east side of the island and check out the resorts there. I completed my mission. Truthfully, Harper also said to visit the islands of Martinique and Saint Thomas while in Puerto Rico, but I had to return early for business. I spent a few days in Old San Juan and decided to rent a car and drive around the big island of Puerto Rico. I drove east along the Caribbean Sea towards El Yunque rainforest. The rainforest was closed due to a day of rain from a tropical depression that later formed into Hurricane Earl. I noticed a road just outside the entrance to the rainforest that headed further up the mountain, so we drove up the mountain since the entire area is a natural rainforest and we wanted to watch the heavy rains in the middle of a rainforest. It was spectacular. On the way down the mountain, the road was washed away so I backtracked over the mountain and found our way out of the rainforest. Saturday, May 31, 2014 Todd was up at 600am, grading papers. Yes I am working on part of the trip. After I finished grading papers, I headed back to our room to make sure everyone was up. We have a tight schedule this morning. Jenny, Marcus, Michael and I wanted to run on the beach this morning. The beach is 1.5 blocks away. Everyone was up to running; Michael decided to work out in the gym. Cindy stayed back in the hotel. So Jenny, Marcus and I walked down towards the beach. I ran ahead and started running.
