Today I start my next adventure. Cuba bound Via Panama. I choose to fly to Havana with Copa Air. I could have gone a bit cheaper going with Areomexico/Cubana however I wanted to avoid using Cubana. Yes they have a terrible safety record but I actually wanted to avoid them as I read that they are notorious for delaying flights – including delays of 48-72 hours. Apparently if they 'delay' a flight and not cancel it they do not need to organise accommodation etc. As I was doing the tour I didn't want to risk a late arrival. Therefore a took advantage of a chance for a layover in Panama.

Copa was a nice airline to fly with. Like reviews said they look after you enough and did 2 food services on a 6 ish hour flight. Announcements were primarily in Spanish then followed through with English so no real issues there.

At immigration I believe I was supposed to pay for a Visa, however the lady didn't speak a lot of English and my Spanish was quite pathetic. I think I offered money and she told me it was ok and to have a good time.

Panama was really hot and humid. I loved it. I wished I could stay longer. I will have to return one day as I can't really tick Panama off as a place I have been without seeing at least some of the sites.

I arranged to stay at a hotel near the airport – Riande Aeropueto Hotel

I have to say – I loved it here. Pity its so far away from the city or I'd go back and stay longer. It was perfect for what I wanted though. Something close and easy transit to the airport. The hotel was clean, comfortable and beautiful really. It had a really nice water feature in the reception area and cute Turkish lantern lighting. I emailed the hotel prior to my arrival to arrange for the airport transfer and they sent me detailed directions on how to find them once I left airport security and they were easy to locate. The driver was lovely. Reception staff also lovely. Was escorted to my room and whilst I struggled a bit with the room service menu I managed to order some chicken wings to get me through the night.
