This photo was taken with my camera up against the telescope. Crazy right!!
We decided to stay a couple nights in the rain forest in a former US Air Force Radar Tower, which was once used to track planes coming from Columbia carrying "valuable cargo". The tower was converted into a 7-room eco-hotel by Raul Arias de Para, a former banker and activist in Panamanian government. The tower has been rated one of the top ten places in the world to see birds. The canopy tower is perched on top of a mountain in the center of a rainforest with 360 views above the canopy which allows you to see for miles in all directions as well as down into the Panama Canal.
Within minutes of arriving, we were treated to the sight of a three-toed sloth that was at the same level as the windows on the fourth floor, the dining room, and perhaps twenty feet away. (As you might imagine, he hasn't moved much from that position for the past 24 hours, sloths are as lazy as is said.)
Since then, we have seen the following creatures:Capuchin Monkeys, Three-toed Sloths, Two-toes Sloths, howler monkeys, a zillion Toucans and Aracaris(part of the toucan family), parrots
and numerous other beautiful birds. We've also seen

These guys are all over the place. Amazing colors!
itty bitty little frogs, a coatimundi (the largest rodent in the world), and an owl butterfly. Needless to say, this place is truly amazing and the pictures are proof.
The list of people who stayed at this hotel is impressive: President Jimmy Carter, Jimmy Buffet, Martha Stewart, Frank Gehry, Senator Bill Frist and a few others. In addition, we think many of them stayed in the very room that we are staying in!
