Finally we could discover what Panama has to offer: the place where we started our trip is Las Lajas. We live here since last june and we fell in love with this place because is a quiet little town surrounding by green hills and with lovely houses , lots of flower gardens and close to a wonderful 15 miles sandy beach! Walking on the sand without shoes at sunset time is all you can desire in your life: freedom.
Going to the left side of the beach we arrived to the outfall of the San Felix river: the sea waves become bigger and there are a lot of birds like parrots, herons and pelicans and it’s a great fishing spot. We also saw two mantas ray dancing in the water!
Then we went by car to another very nice little town that is ten minute from Las Lajas, Santa Cruz: at the moment there are only private houses , no restaurants or hostels but we can imagine it can be change in some years because it has the easier way to go out to the ocean.
Obviously if you want to arrange a boat trip you can’t take a boat and
put on the beach trying to leave from there and sail trough the waves of the Pacific Ocean... also because during the season from June to November it’s a great surfing spot….so it’s not possible at all and the only way is a calm water bay like Santa Cruz: the municipality is already begins the project of a little port so it will be easier for tourists to enjoy a boat tour. For the moment we make a bay tour: it’s a an amazing trip through the mangroves in the silence, where you can listen the birds, the boat sailing gently and lots of animals hidden in the greenwood.
It’s another great fishing spot and there is a wonderful curative skin mud…we have to go another time to explore it!
This port will also enable to have a boat trip to some beautiful islands: Isla Selva de Afuera y de Adentro, Islas Secas and Isla Coiba!
We visited Selvas Islands in a day trip: until now the starting point is in Remedios town, 15 minutes from Las Lajas that already has a fishing port. The closer island is Selva de Adentro: we found a nice sandy beach bordered of coconut
palms with a calm green sea so we had a good swim and sailed to the second island. We met some dolphins because this area is an important migratory route for whales and other cetaceans! Approaching the island we could see a wonderful white sand beach and black rocks paradise and after, walking through its paths, we discovered that it’s fully cultivated with jucca, corn, papaya and more. What a nice place, just in front of our beach, a caribbean corner!
Another day we decided to visit the Petrogliph Site of Nancito, there is the sign on the left, driving to Tolè: there an uphill very steep road and at its end we found a panoramic point. We could appreciate a real “chirican” landscape, whit green hills, rivers, palms, horses and cows…very evocative!
Then we went on to the site: it’s an open air area full of big volcanic stones with strange petroglyphs on one side and a little museum: nothing that you can’t miss but it’s nice, the panoramic view is great and it’s only ten minutes from the Panamerican highway!
