The second day in Jiquilillo, me and Chris headed off down to the end of the road to search out a baseball

game, as it is supposed to be a big event. Asking a number of locals on the way, one finally told us to get

out here at what looked like an empty field. Why didn´t we just stay on the bus. The game clearly was not

on, as the field was devoid of life except for a pig and a few chickens.

Down the road we walked till we got to what appeared to be a restaurant. Fenced in area, dirt floor, with

a bunch of tables, some roaming chickens, dogs, and a pig pit on the short walk to the outhouse out back.

It was now 9:15 in the morning, a few local guys sat guzzling beer at one of the tables, and the kitchen

didn´t look any cleaner than the pig pit out back.

Chris however decided to order the fish. $3 got you a whole fish, deep fried, rice, a bit of salad, and some

tortillas. Chris didn´t see the kitchen, which turned out to be a good thing. As the fish was nicely seasoned

and perfectly fried.

After Chris´s breakfast we decided to walk back to the Rancho, which turned out to be a bad idea for me

anyway. I didn´t have a cap, and a few days before in the market in Granada, I stopped into one of the

local salon´s in the market for a $1.50 haircut.

So after returning to the Rancho, I noticed my forehead was burning. I figured I´d just put on some

sunscreen and head out into the waves, bad idea. My forehead burned for the next two days, blistering

and scarring. It´s taken over a week for it to heal fully. Ouch!

If your looking for a nice place to chill out, that´s far from the crowds, where every floor is made of dirt,

than Jiquilillo is for you. The Rancho, with Nate running it, is pretty laid back, and also puts some of the

money you pay for your room and food back into the community that was completely destroyed by the

hurricane in 1992.
