Docked in the horseshoe bay of San Juan Del Sur 7.00a.m. and tendered to the dock. Teamed up with Val and Merv from Sarena (Rae they are friends of Des and Chris from the World Cruise and who are going on the Japan cruise with Vic and Chris and you and Jim), lovely couple, we decided to share a taxi to Granada. Two hour drive to the city which is an old colonial town settled in 1540 and sits on the edge of the magnificent Nicaragua Lake (this lake is 110 mile long by 45 mile wide, largest in Central America), thought to once have been ocean but a volcano explosion separated it from the ocean as there are sharks and fish in this lake that are found nowhere else in the world, they had to adapt to the fresh water over the years. There are mixed feelings here about a very, very rich Chinese guy building another Panama Canal through Nicaragua and through this lake!!! The first sod was turned in December 2014. The drive was very interesting very much farming land and they are still using very basic equipment and their hands, sugar cane, grain, cows, dairy farms, tropical

Local buses fruits, cashews are their main agriculture, .Merv and Val very taken with the sugar cane industry as that is what they mainly farm at Sarena. It seems Nicaraguans are doing OK, seeing they were in war until the late 80's. Saw loads of horse and carts along the way, ox drays and people on horseback - but in the cities there are lots of cars, trucks, buses. After exploring Granada, took a boat cruise, just the four of us, around part of the lake which has hundreds of islands in it, made of volcanic rock - it was so peaceful and beautiful we all thoroughly enjoyed the day, looking at all the different homes, shacks and getaways situated on some of the small islands. Had a couple of beers in a local bar, Tona, not a bad drop! Some others who did trips with the cruise ship didn't have such a great day - were stopped by the army carrying AK47's and everyones cameras were looked at and photos deleted, apparently they had take photos of something they should not have, were held for 3/4 hr and then let go on their way - our friend Karen said "they really

Beautiful colonial buildings and horse rides! meant business"! Another couple put off the ship in Costa Rica - she was a nutter - but don't really know exactly what was so bad that she did - but she was certainly off-putting if you were her in her vicinity - talked no sense at all! We have had a bit of bad news - John's motorbike has been stolen from our VERY SECURE basement at Armarco!! Not happy Jan!! Don't know any details as yet!
