I am travelling around using my Mastercard and debit card but Ometepe only had one cash machine that accepted Visa. My only option was to use the local supermarket guy who would swipe my card and take a 10% commission. After just getting enough money to get off the island by ferry I encountered the same problem in Rivas, where they had multiple ATMs but they were all out of money expect for the visa ones. In the end I started going around shops that accepted mastercards as payment options and explained my situation in my crappy Spanish. The first lady agreed to do it for 5% but then didnt charge me at all.

Now with money, I took a couple of buses to get to San Juan del Sur on the Pacific coast where I planned to do some surfing. I had heard that the surf was bad but as my surfing skills are also poor I welcomed the chance to surf small waves. I got to Maderas beach and it turned out that it wasnt even worth hiring a board so just chilled out for 2 days before heading to Costa Rica.
