My room is straight ahead, so getting by the wet pool deck is fancy footwork with the crutches. Super slow. Super style.
Hostel Oasis- my new home.

So here I am. In the middle of Central America, with a ridiculously large cast on my leg. As though I didn´t stand out before as a tall, blonde, american woman. I spent the weekend at Nadia´s house- she graciously offered that I stay there while I began to recover- I can´t thank her enough for her incredible hospitality. But, Nadia and her husband Manolo left to go Spain on Monday, so I have now relocated to a nice hostel here in Nicaragua called The Oasis. There is a pool here (that I can´t swim in, but certainly is nice scenery) and many travelers coming and going. It has been nice to meet so many people and realize how helpful strangers can be. The cast is great conversation starter which makes finding friends for dinner easy. Last night I met a mime from Chicago and a man from Palestine who is traveling the world from North to South poles.

The plans for my trip have obviously changed. For now, I will stay in Granada instead of exploring Costa Rica. This is going to really force me to slow down, take things easy, read lots

Thank god the internet is free and plentiful here... Updating this blog takes a lot of time and patience!
of books, and practice my Spanish. There are courses here that I hope to check out tomorrow for more one-on-one conversations.

And I wait and I heal.

It is funny how life deals things to you, isn´t it. Although, this part of the trip was unexpected, I can´t help but think it will be good for me, for some reason. A lot of time for reflection and absorbtion of the culture around me. I am already developing relationships and experiencing things that I would have skipped over if I didn´t have a broken ankle!

After all, it could be worse.

Me pretending to be happy- actually was pleased that the bruising wasn´t that bad, but maybe that´s because I walked on it for 4 days without a cast...?

Still really, really swollen- needs 5 more days of temporary cast, then permanent one.

But on the right photo: Broken fibula- the smaller bone to the left- you can see the crack on left side of bone, just above the left joint. Keepin´it simple.

Broken ankle is not gonna stop me! This is the newest, sexier, smaller, and more aerodynamic temporary cast. I walked down (and then back up) 88 steps to get to the Laguna- getting better with these crutches.

Hi there girl we are just hangin in san jose at the pangaya hostel, I finnally found your blog, We have been wondering how you were doing the corn islands were fun, super laid back, the internet there is skecthy though so it was hard to email from there supposidly they have it fixed now but it is very slow, we may try to change our flight home for tommorrow, there is not much to do in san jose without gettin mugged, but it was really pretty easy to get there if you wanted to go for a few days, the people there are super friendly, but there are some guys that might try to scam you out of your belongings or money but we had a great time over all, we went straight to the little corn island, we didnt spend any time on the big corn, but it was a great releif from the fast pace of the mainland, no cars nothin, we rented a little hut right on the beach for six bucks a night, hardly any tourists maybe 20 on the whole island, of a population of about 500 people, any how i hope you get better as soon as possible, when we get back to the states i will send you some pics, Later girl, thinkin of you, John and Ryan
