Up at 4am Perquin is still dark we struggled to wake up we caught the first bus out for km18 and then half asleep we got off and waited for a bus to Santa Rosa de Lima, the conductor duped us, he charged $2 each for an hour bus ride, quite cheap but if you know how much cheaper it actually is travelling here, oh well never mind we got there and was able to take the bus to El Amatillo the border town where we
got harassed by touts offering to take us to the other side which is Nicaragua, we managed to avoid them and walked to the border checkpoint, made us pay $3 to exit El Salvador and enter Honduras. On the other side we managed to find the shuttle bus to Guasaule on the Nicaraguan frontier, the ride was 2 hours on a collectivo, Joey struggled mighthily, he could barely move his legs as tall as he is this vans are built for Asian size! A couple of police checkpoints we have to go through we finally arrived, an unfriendly officer made us pay $7 each to enter Nicaragua the paperwork took a long time then near the
bridge crossing as we walk we got checked again, the officers were not happy that we have to take our passports out from our money belt hidden under our underwears! he held up Joey´s passport from the edges!!On the other side it was a hot walk trying to find the right chicken bus to Leon.
The bus leaves in 2 hours so we had lunch of soup as it was the only available item. Pedro balked, claiming it´s too hot for a soup so he had beer. After lunch we walked to where the buses are and a young guy was trying to give us wrong info little did he know we asked a lady and was told a direct bus goes to Leon. While waiting we observed how boring this town is, very hot, nothing to do a typical border town, we left soon and the roads are crap in the beginning, unlike in El Salvador where the roads are well paved, dust all over and we are dirtier than ever. We passed a very nice cone shaped volcano along the way, we were told it is Volcan San Cristobal by a local. A young local boy sat
next to me and started asking me questions, where you from etc in Spanish I tried to ignore him as i would rather be left alone, bored he stole an orange from the side pocket of my backpack, he showed it to me and I told him take it! A woman got on with a baby pig that keeps squealing at the back, letr on it pooped! the whole bus smelled! The bus conductor opened all windows. Arriving in very hot Leon we walked a good 15 miutes to the hostel Bigfoot, next to Via Via another famous hostel. We got dorm rooms. we walked the town and looked for ATM, it is hot here!! at leat its dry heat otherwise I would have really wilted. At night we treated ourselves as like every border cossing we make, Joey and I had a good filet mignon from Via Via restaurant for barely $10. Good eers alo, Toño and Victoria. Our roomie were a bit noisy and the dude above my bunk bed keeps moving about the whole night waking me up everytime I want to smack him! And early in the a.m, made the loudest fart! Pedro was not amused,
We decied to chill and do not much, we internet, we walked around town hang out with Juan the Costa Rican we met in Suchitoto earlier.
Had a few drinks at Via Via then to a bar near the'plaza, when a band started to play loud lousy music we headed back to VIa Via but we were booted out at 12mn, we hang out outside for a bit talking to a local that Pedro met in the plaza earlier. Then off to bed unfortunately our annoying roomie who sleeps above my bed is still there, shaking the bunk beds the whole night once again. It rained last night and helped make the night a bit cooler, I was itching the whole night probably bed bugs again! We decided to stay another night here. Decided to do culture stuff so we visited an art museum that took us ages to find because we relied on Pedro to lead us and as always we get lost, doesnt have a good sense of direction. the paintings are all interesting, some are made from recycled cans. In the afternoon after siesta we met up Darwin a local dude that we met at the
Park, he showed us where Joey can buy cigars then we went to a poet´s museum, Dario or something, then back to hostel and we had a few rounds of Toño, had dinner and fell asleep in the rocking chair but not before hearing Pedro having an interesting conversation with an Israeli dude about politics what else. They went over to Via Via for more drinks and I went to bed. later that night the dorm was a rockin´, the young small Canadian dude sleeping on the top bunk above Joey brought a girl and they started having sex, everyone woke up the dude above me and Joey left the room in disgust and a girl staying in the dorm could not take it anymore so she said something like," get a room, you got to be serious", they stopped for a bit and went on again, this time the girl told them in a loud voice,"I dont care if you guys have sex but not here in the dorm, go outside and do it there, we dont want to hear you have sex" the boy said well we dont want to hear you sleep either, i was waiting for
Joey to smack him in the balls but he did not say anything, well the action stopped and we all went to bed again eventually, The next morning the dude and his pal left early, no shame, and we thought he was the quiet one, barely making a noise the last couple nights.
Off again this time to Granada, we opted to take a taxi to the bus station as it was hot, found the collectivo that will get us to managua then change buses to Granada.
