Warning!!!!!! There are images that might cause offense! Keep away from children! El Salvador treated to me a a nice breakfast and some corrupt border guards, not so much fun when they tell you that somebody, their collegue made a mistake but the problem was mine. Enough said about that except that I hate corrupt border guards both i El Salvador an Honduras with every morsel of my soul, may the pox be on them. Enough moaning. Honduras for 190 km or so and then into Nicaragua, friendliness and helpfulness at every moment. The customs guy asked me to open my luggage and I told him I couldn't because I was carrying contraband, arms, explosives and drugs and I did not want to get caught. He laughed and I showed him my meagre belongings, they would ... read more

I have had two busy weeks and have taught lots of yoga both at the Ruben Dario School to the primary children and to the two grandsons at my house. The kids at school love to get out into the patio to take a break from classes and they seem very receptive to "silla yoga" or chair yoga after 10 am when it is so hot outside. Here are some pics.... read more

Hi everyone, Here are some photos from the last two weekends. The first weekend was at the beach in Boquita. The second weekend I went with other students to the Mombacho Volcano! I am halfway into my stay and am thinking some of coming home, especially when the 4 hours of Spanish lessons daily drag on. It wouldn´t be so bad if I thought my Spanish was improving, but I can´t say that it is. I still feel like my Spanish is only in survival mode and can´t understand rapid conversations. Oh well, I´ll keep plugging on, knowing that I can be remediated at WTI in the fall. Dawn... read more

Hi everyone, I have made it to Nicaragua and have begun teaching yoga in the mornings and taking classes in the afternoons. After a few nights of not sleeping well, I finally was tired enough to sleep through the chickens, dogs and other sounds in the night. My spanish teachers are great and my only real homework is to put together scripts and lessons for the children so that I can teach them in Spanish. So far besides teaching them I have made a matching game with the names of the yoga poses. It´s been fun but it is hot and I am quite tired every day. However, the food has been great and my family is really nice. The bucket showers are quite good in the evening when it is still hot and I can ... read more

Nicaragua: Monday morning we got on the bus at 6 am and headed out to Liberia, Guanacaste (Costa Rica) to visit another biology reserve. This one was a lot nicer than the one we visited on our first field trip. We didn’t really do much here; I think it was mostly just a place to stay on our way to Nicaragua. We did go on a night forest walk, which was kinda cool. We didn’t see any animals though. Tuesday we continued our journey to Nicaragua! Crossing the border was crazy. Nicaragua and Costa Rica do not have a good relationship so things were really strict. Before getting to the actual border, we passed, on the wrong side of the road, at least two miles of semi-trucks waiting to cross. I’m not quite sure why we ... read more

August 12 – Today is my last day of vacation. I woke up early and talked to Jeroen and the kitties on skype. Then my mom called on skype and we talked for about two minutes before we started to argue about politics. I also called my grandma and chatted with her a bit. I met Kati at 9:30am for our farewell breakfast down at the Irish pub. I ordered a breakfast burrito and a peach banana drink. Yum and yum. Sour cream should accompany every breakfast. Here's to hoping I haven't gained too much weight on this trip. It was a nice breakfast and then Kati and I said our goodbyes. We had a nice time together and spending the last few days with her really was a great ending to my trip. Back at ... read more

August 2 - So the sleeping thing did not really work out last night. When I tried to sleep at 9:30, I knew I could only get six hours of sleep at a maximum, but I was still not tired enough so I just laid there for a while. Then the fan was just too loud, so I had to turn it off. Earplugs were out of the question in case I slept through my 3:30am wake up call. Not likely, but just in case. It didn't get too hot, so that was a plus. I slept a bit, but kept waking up. The last time was at 2:15am when I heard two guys talking and their tv on. They must have arrived late. By 2:45 I just decided to get up, work on my blog ... read more

Hola amigos! Continuamos nuestra viaje... We headed to Granada to meet up with our travel buddies, Pat and Rob, from Vancouver Island. Granada has a lot of colonial buildings from the time of the Spanish conquest, many of which have been restored as the earthquakes in these parts tend to level cities from time to time. It is a very pretty place with a lot going on from street performers and musicians to beautiful buildings and architecture. There was a boy who kept bugging us at our table one night, to eat the food from our plates. The story out there is that many kids will hit the tourists with stories of not having money, in order to eat westernized food. We were warned not to comply with their begging as western food is not really ... read more
