El Greco Resort
Overlooking Doctor Cave Beach I visited Jamaica last year 2017 before Christmas break. Here are some of my stories:
Montego Bay, El Greco Resort I stayed at El Greco Resort, it is a hotel complex where all your needs are just steps away. They have store inside the complex where you can buy personal hygiene stuffs, pools and served good food on their restaurant. You can see the view overlooking the Doctor's Cave beach from the restaurant. And from there, you can walk your way down using their elevators and end up at the boulevard and give yourself a stroll. The Doctor’s Cave Beach is accessible to anybody who stay in El Greco, you just need to show your pass which the Hotel provides. There were clubs nearby for a one unforgettable night, a park for early morning walk and a Burger King to cut your budget for food. Souvenir shops also scattered around the area.
It was a nice location.
First Stop, Margarittavilla,Montego Bay, Just a few walks from where I stayed. This one-hot-spot club is famous to tourists who wants to share the dance floor all night to grind, pump
and soak yourself up with Jamaican vibe. It was crammed when I got there but somehow I enjoyed myself just staying at the bar drinking Red stripes, a Jamaican beer, while feeling the beat of loud music.
If getting high is your thing, just walk outside the club and a local will soon approach you and will sell you weed, spreading the slogan “one love” to everybody; But you are going to sniff and leave the club smelling like weed anyway.
Remember,this is Jamaica
Blue Hole and Secret Falls(a secret falls but well known) From Montego Bay, Me and my guide drive our way to town of Ocho Rios and to Blue Hole and Secret Falls for a day only equipped with information I got from the internet. I was not sure what to expect!
Blue Hole is a natural swimming pool in the depths of the rainforest. It is a hidden gem for thrill seekers and once shown in James Bond movie. The water resembles a blue color,it is crystal clear, deep, cold, naturally clean and fresh. Uphill was a river channel and cascading falls with breathtaking views perfect for you once-in-a-lifetime photos. There are jump points
for an exhilarating experience wherein the highest is around 20 ft. high. You can swing like Tarzan, spend moment to swim on cool water, dive and do waterfall massage.
The Brownies man, You're gonna meet him on your way to Blue Hole hailing on your vehicle. If you need him, just refer on the photos to get his contact and oh! by the way, this guy is kinda famous and is all over youtube. It is frustrating though I didn’t get a photo with him.
But for real? A contact number on brownies, where else will you find advertising brownies?. Only in Jamaica!
One brownies from him will only cost you $5 and guaranteed cheapest on the area. Thank me later for this info.
Negril Seven Mile Beach and the legendary beach bar, Rick’s Café It is usually a combo tour to Negril. You will first allow to spend a moment on the beach on Seven Miles and chill on the Margaritaville Resto bar for a few hours. Enjoy yourself with the loud bumpy Jamaican music and watch the people dance with white sand on their feet.
After
Seven Miles, our guide brought us to Rick’s Café,a beach bar on the cliff nominated for being the best beach bars in the world. The bar is packed with tourist watching the extremely high cliff jumps and dives which gives goosebumps by just watching them. Some are dancing with the Jamaican disco beats, some are chilling with their ice-cold beer and what this bar made famous from the other bars? Is because of its serene and romantic view to the sea during sunset. Unfortunately, I was not able to witness it because of misty, light rain.
Night time is for the Reggae music live band which made Jamaica known for.
Kingston City Tour From Montego Bay,I took a flight to Kingston, the capital of Jamaica and went for a city tour. I met one tour operator driver in the airport and contracted him for that day for my trip.It was Sunday and unlucky for me, the plan is not going that well since shops are closed during Sunday in Jamaica which I intended to go to buy souvenirs and the famous Bob Marley Museum and Port Royal Museum was also closed. My guide drove
me around the city and visited numerous landmarks, firstly to Bob Marley Museum but was closed,The Devons house,a heritage site, famous for being the house of the first Black Millionaire in the Caribbean and for its unrivaled tasty ice cream, The Emancipation Park built to commemorate the Jamaican Independence, The National Heroes Park, a memorial for the past president of the country and heroes erected with iconic structures for each and lastly, the Port Royale, small village of rich history.
Knowledge acquired,Experience gained. During my stay in Jamaica, I learned that,
Hotels and shops can welcome their guess with rum. Jamaica got high hopes when it comes to their rum as one of their renowned export product together with sugar, banana, bauxite and the famous blue mountain coffee. I was surprised that it is not marijuana when I learned that.
That jerk chicken/pork is a must to eat in Jamaica.
Do not munch that f*cking brownies like cupcake when you got hungry. I was stupid I did that. Out of curiosity, I bought one.
Sunday is a rest day for some establishment as well in Jamaica. Shopping centers, market and museums aren’t open
during Sunday in Kingston. (not sure for the shopping market though, or I was just early, I visit it in the morning)
YOMON is an affirmative expression the same with YEAH MEN but not just a random expression you hear from the local… like WOMON is for women.
You will hear a lot of "One Love" and "No Problem" in Jamaica.
It is true that Jamaica is a marijuana haven. You can get them on the streets.
Red Stripes is a good beer.
Christopher Columbus was in Jamaica and was cool
But Bob Marley is cooler
Jamaica is fun!
Norman Manley International Airport. The name of the airport actually derived from their past prime minister. If you haven’t get a chance to buy a souvenir. You can get in on the airport but it will be costly as usual.
