It's 11:30 AM on a Tuesday....have you had your first Lumumba of the day yet?
Then you must not be in Jamaica, Mon!
We spent 7 days at The Riu Ocho Rios with family and friends and had such a good time. We can highly recommend it if you think you will go. Almost a kilometre of palm tree lined beach (
read: no fighting for beach chairs), great buffets, a Jerk Chicken hut, pools, gardens and fantastic staff. There was a coral reef 50 feet off shore (you could stand on a sandy bottom and look down at it) that we spent hours every day exploring with our snorkels.
We only did one off-resort excursion. It started with a catamaran ride to a reef to do some snorkeling (snorkeling was actually better at our resort). Then we were off to climb Dunn’s River Falls. The falls are 600 feet high and the rushing water empties directly in to the Caribbean Sea. Some claim it is a fountain of youth and those who bathe in it with be 10 years younger. We can certainly say the climb was exhilarating. There are pools to jump in, rushing water to shower
under; and at one point you are in what is essentially a ditch of water running under the road. It takes about 1 hour to climb to the top of the falls through the rushing water, and 10 minutes to come back down via some steps lined with vendors selling all things Jamaican (aka things made in China). The catamaran ride back to the marina took the scenic route so that we could refresh ourselves after our climb (yes...the booze cruise portion of our day), and get schooled on the art of dancing by our bartender, Mamma Beach. This woman you have to meet to believe.
Of course, the official reason for this holiday was our niece's wedding. And what a great event it was. We had a 3:00 ceremony on the beach, a steak dinner in one of the a-la-cart restaurants followed by a bonfire on the beach where we could hear the reggae band from the theater above. A perfect day, indeed!
One of the best things about these all-inclusive vacations is the consumables - food and booze.

There were 18 of us all together for this destination wedding. There were always people to be with if you wanted that. We picked a special tree on the beach as a common place to meet. It's a great idea if you are traveling as a group and want to be able to hook up with someone in the crowd.
We had such a great time we've signed up for another wedding in Ocho Rios next year.
Ya, Mon!
