Arrived Montego Bay Saturday 6th at around 5pm. We were met at the airport by Steve, who is the owner of our guest house (Bethel Court Guest House). After being hit by the heat and a mass of people all wanting our bags and money we were bundled in to Patrick's car, our guide for the rest of the week. It was a little disconcerting having to get through three padlocks and a door lock to get to our room, but since our first night it's obvious that it's the norm around Jamaica. Everyone has guards and metal grates over their windows and doors. I think there are problems on the island, but we've had positive experiences everywhere we've gone. Yesterday we spent diving near Runaway Bay. We completed our certification to use sea scooters (diver ... read more

I awoke in a bit of a daze this morning after last night’s frivolities. I walked around my room and noticed a small card on the foot of my bed. Something from the hotel on checkout procedure I thought to myself last night. Then I read it. In fact, it was informing us that munchies were in the fridge, courtesy of the newlyweds. Sweet, breakfast. After my breakfast, I went out for another swim, starting at the pool, swimming to the cliffs and back. I zipped through the first half, going through the current. The way back was a lot more strenuous. Post-swim, I relaxed by the pool, reading some more. A short while later, Julia, Dan and Nicole Mascione and I went to explore the caves from yesterday. We casually swam out to the larger ... read more

I started off the day with some exercise, trying to remove the effects of the umpteen dirty bananas I drank last night. With the failed attempt at running yesterday, I decided a swim would be much more fitting. After walking down to the bridge, I jumped off and swam up the length of the water towards the pool, back to the low platform and then back to the pool again where I wrapped up my exercise. All-in-all, it took less than 15 minutes but that was plenty of swim work for me for now. I got cleaned up and joined some others at the pool. This morning was cloudier than the past couple days but the heat was still present. I took out my book and read for a while. Some of the older men were ... read more

This morning I set out on a run to burn off some of those beers I had last night. I headed out along the main road in the direction from which we arrived yesterday afternoon. I spent the bulk of the trip dodging oncoming traffic on the tight roadway. Along the way I searched for beaches in the area since our hotel is all cliffs. I finally found one over a mile away. Some beach. It might have been about 30 yards long. About a quarter mile later I found a larger one and stopped to take in the view. And catch my breath - the heat was getting to me. Pretty pathetic considering it’s only been a little over a month since the NY marathon. After I made it back I showered off in the ... read more

Today I departed Philadelphia for a few days of fun in the sun and Jeff and Mel’s destination wedding in Negril, Jamaica. I was happy to be leaving freezing temperatures for, according to Jeff and Mel, “88°, partly cloudy with a 100% chance of an incredible time.” This would be my second trip to Jamaica after heading down with some friends from Baltimore in March 2006. But it is my first time in Negril as we went to Ocho Rios in 2006. The flight down was nice, with my upgrade to first class certainly helping. I’m going to miss my frequent flyer status when it expires in a few weeks. Behind me sat Jamie and Jon, Jeff’s sister and brother-in-law, and their small children. I hardly recognized them after meeting them in Jacksonville last year when ... read more

I have less than two weeks before our trip to Jamaica and I can't wait. Everyday I imagine myself sipping pina coladas on the beach, basking in the golden Jamaican sun and splashing around in the crystal blue 7 mile beach water. We are staying at my favorite resort of all time, Couples Negril. OK, I admit this is my 8th trip to Jamaica. I've been a lot of places in this world, but Negril - Jamaica is still my favorite. Couples Negril is all about relaxation and romance. I'm eagerly awaiting our his/her couples massage. I usually pay for an hour massage each day I'm there, just because it's that fabulous. My husband doesn't know it yet but I've even arranged for a private dinner of the beach. We'll have our own chef and wait ... read more

Wed., April 15, 2009 - Arrived in Montego Bay We landed at Sangster international airport in Montego Bay, Jamaica, at around 1:30 p.m. local time. It was nice to be back to a beautiful island environment, as this was my second trip to Jamaica. This trip was especially exciting for me, since it was my children’s first time out of the United States . We had a slight delay going through customs, because I had a box of decorations for my sister’s wedding, which the customs agents wanted to open and search. Afterwards, we proceeded outside and met up with my brother-in-law who had bus transportation waiting for us. Our driver’s name was Lee and he assisted us for most of our trip. He drove us to the Palms Beachside Resort Negril in Westmoreland Parish, which ... read more

1/19/08 So 2 days ago was officially the coldest day I have ever experienced...& the same has been true for each day that follows. In some parts of MN it got down to -40 F!! That is just insane!!! Now I absolutely can't wait for Belize & Jamaica in a couple of weeks!! About a week ago I got back from Belize. We had an amazing trip in Bermudian Landing...a village that I have become so close with! Sister Dahlia & Pastor Floyd & their 2 precious daughters; Micracle & Abigail, and of course Melissa. It was a rather 'rough' trip because we slept on the floor & had NO running water. So, we washed either in the river or with a bucket of water, & we flushed the toilet by pouring a bucket of water ... read more
