We had a lovely week in Lago de Yojoa with lots of relaxing, pints of ale and yummy food. We ended up spending 6 days there and although we didnt want to leave the D&D brewery we thought it was time to hit the road! 6 hours and 3 buses later we found ourselves in La Esperanza where for the first time in 3 months we were searching for our fleeces. La Esperanza, thinking it was going to be a quiet, off the beaten track, mountain village it turned out to be a busy trading community. La Esperanza was quite large in comparision to our last destination and we were by far the only foreigners around and it was obvious that we were the only visitors they had had for a while as they surrounded us everywhere we went asking questions whenever we stopped. The first evening there i immediately got surrounded by 20 hondurans asking me what my name was and why i was here, it was very intimidating but at the same time i really felt like i was amongst the Honduran culture. There was a beautiful monument at the end of the town which had an amazing view at the top of it, you could see over the town and beyond to the mountains and surrounding villages. We decided to stay in La esperanza for 2 nights and although we were ready to leave by then we were glad we made the stop there as it was something we hadnt experienced yet travelling and it felt very different. Next stop was Gracias! From La Esperanza to Gracias it was nothing but a dirt road, it was only 63km away but yet took us well over 2 hours!!! Gracias was completely different again, still in the mountains, it reminded me of Spain. Gracias is an old very religous colonial town, it is actually where the Honduran President lived back in the 1800s and back then Gracias was known for where the rich, famous and itellectual people lived. It is Steves favorite place in Honduras and one of mine too! All the streets were cobbled and every building was colonial style. Gracias had a gorgeous central park with an upstairs coffee tower right in the middle so you could sit up at the top drinking your coffee enjoying the view, which we did most days playing cards. Everyone was very friendly and not persistant as they have been everywhere else. As well as the beautiful peaceful town itself it also had the famous hot springs 4km east of the town. We managed hitch hike once again to the Hot Springs and wow we were glad we took the time to visit them! There about 5 natural pools of water that varied from warm to jacuzzi hot! We spent a lovely afternoon there and hitchhiked it back before dark. We spent 3 days in Gracias and while we were there the locals were enjoying a week long celebration for St. Marta so the 3 days we spent there were full of vibrant Honduran festivities. Copan was our next and final stop in Honduras before we reach Guatemala. We are currently on our 4th day here, it is once again a beautiful colonial town but more touristy as its Hondurans major attraction as it hosts the famous historical Copan Ruins. We like Copan for different reasons as its a very welcoming town and more people speak english which is always a relief. Its quite expensive here and there is lots of tempting souvenier shops so our bank accounts will be pleased when
On top of the monument..On top of the monument..On top of the monument..

Where we spent an afternoon enjoying the view, the sun and the enjoyable breeze!
we leave here. We plan to head out of here and on to Guatemala on Sunday and then its off to Rio Dulce where we will be volunteering at Casa Guatemala which is a home and a school to hundreds of Orphaned children.
