I had a comment asking about the food and drink and as far as that goes, unfortunately we were staying at an all inclusive dive resort so the only food and drink we enjoyed was what they made us. The Port Royal beer was good, but I'm no beer connoisseur so other than, "good," I'm not sure how to describe it. We ate a lot of excellent, fresh, seafood! The snapper was probably the most memorable. When we went into town, we had intentions of stopping at a local bar for a drink, but didn’t have time. …Heading home today, but not without a little excitement at 4:30 in the morning. Lucky for Alex and I, we had just finished packing and put our bags outside of our room to be picked up when the power ... read more

Last day of diving. We got to check out a sunken ship. The top of it was around 65 feet deep and the bottom was a bit lower than 100 feet. I love wrecks. There was a huge moray eel inside one part of the ship. This ship was purposely sunken, which is obvious because it is in one piece, but it has been there long enough that it is covered in growth and fish. Huge groupers swam around it. We swam through part of the ship, but I didn’t attempt to go throughout the inside of it. We have to fly out tomorrow and needed to spend as little amount of time that low as possible. The second dive was shallow, easy, and nice. One of the other divers, George, spotted a scorpion fish. These ... read more

**VIDEO NOTES** (Videos are below the text) Divers and Dolphins - 20 seconds in Diver One: Can anyone tell if they're males or not? Diver Two: Let me...I've got a little lesson I can give you later. Diver One: Has anyone seen a pecker? Divers and Dolphins - 1 minute in Watch the dolphin in the upper left corner. I didn't see it while I was videoing, but it jumped backwards out of the water. Music by The Dirty Heads During our first morning dive, Alex was busy finding lion fish everywhere. Marlo, the dive master, was killing them as they were found. We watched one nassau grouper swallow a lion fish whole after Marlo did her deed with the spear and we watched three other fish peck at another lion fish until his head was ... read more

Today I’m skipping our two morning dives so I can get my online homework done for the day, buuuuuuut…….the internet isn’t working. So that’s cool. Apparently us Americans used three days worth of their very limited bandwidth within a two hour span last night. The internet provider cut us off for 24 hours. We do three dives a day. On the evenings that we do a night dive, we skip the after lunch dive. Since we'll have spare time before the night dive, we’re heading back to mainland Utila to check things out. That’s why I opted to do my homework this morning; the night dive doesn’t start until 6:30pm, then dinner, then we’ll be whipped. Breathing that tank air takes everything out of you. .....Walking around here at night is neat, but you have to ... read more

Today our dive leader let me borrow his dive computer. It’s the first affordable computer sold to divers called the Skinny Dipper. It tells you how long you’ve been down, your depth, and the time you have left to safely dive. No memory, no beeping, no buttons, no fancy graphs, warnings or features. Bare bones necessities and it is great. Plus, it works, which is a major improvement from the one I rented. I couldn’t get down at first because I got rid of some of my weights on the previous dive. Alex followed the wrong group and was long gone before I got down. The boat driver gave me another weight and I buddied up with our dive master, Marlo. She carries around a three-pronged spear. There are these awesome looking Lion Fish that are ... read more

The day started at 6:30 in the morning. Our dive equipment was transported to the boat and we headed to breakfast. The first dive of the trip is an easy one that is mostly for everyone to get their weights right and acclimated to the water. I didn’t do so well. Actually, I didn’t “do” at all. I freaked. I’ve gained a lot of weight since we bought my wetsuit and on top of the tight fit, over the years, I’ve developed a lot of anxiety. I kept telling Alex I should just rent a wetsuit and leave mine at home, but he talked me into just trying it. I felt like I couldn’t breathe before we even hit the water. Once we did, attempting to let all of the air out of my lungs so ... read more

Our fancy (scary) plane

You guys are going to be so jealous when I get back to Michigan with this rockin’ tan…….on my hands. That’s one downside to wetsuits – awkward tan lines. We made it safe and sound to Utila; an island off of Honduras near Roatan (where we went to complete our open water followed by our advanced diving certifications). Utila is sought after by divers in hopes of getting a glimpse of the large whale shark beauties. It is a shark that is as big as a whale, but eats mostly plankton. It is the largest fish in the sea and can get up to 40 feet long! Once we arrived in Honduras, we had to take a commuter plane to Utila. It was a small, I want to say 16 passenger, plane. Old planes with loud ... read more

It was Saturday morning when I left Casa Guatemala. I caught the 8am boat (which didn't turn up until about 8.30) and knew I had a long day ahead of me, trying to get as close to the Bay Islands (in Honduras) as possible. My plan was to get the boat from Rio Dulce to Livingston and see the sights along the way. By that point I had been told by several people that I would see really beautiful scenery including a castle and some waterfalls, but my guide book stated that not all boats did the “tourist” version of the trip and I wasn't quite sure how to know which boat to take. I got to the pier at about 9.15 and bought my ticket (Q125) for the 9.30 boat, There I met a girl, ... read more

Up early to enjoy our last few hours on the island. Glad we did the recon mission last night because we had crap everywhere! Literally everywhere. Now it's at least all within 2-3 rooms of the house. We made a nice veggie omelet with some bacon on the side & toast. Tiki sat at the table again & asked for bacon. She got some of course. She's just too cute. Then began the pack up. It didn't take too long thankfully & we were able to sit & enjoy the beach & watch the ocean for a bit longer. While watching the ocean we saw a pod of dolphins in the distance jumping & playing in the water. So that was a nice bonus. There's an outside shower that has great water pressure & plus it's ... read more

We woke up this morning with the sun of course, since we are outside. The cutest thing was waking up with Tiki sleeping at Geoff's feet. It makes me miss Eddie. So sweet. Sleeping outside was super fun but the dew of the morning was really wet. It seemed like it had rained a bit even though I know it didn't because I looked at the stars all night. Oh well, worth it for the view. This morning we made our first George Bowl's since home. Modifiied of course, but still pretty good. Then it was basically: well what do you want to do with your own island for the day? Pretty simple day really. Snorkel around the island, read, nap, play with Tiki, make grilled ham & cheese, make rum drinks, drink beer, journal, read, ... read more
