Hi all hope you all well, good to hear pompey thrashed scum in FA cup!
Sorry not posted any blogs been too busy to write em and lost internet at station for the moment.
Been busy finishing the school house, rained for 2 days here as still rainy season, we had 120 mm of rain in two days! I know that as i took the chore of reading the pluviometer twice a day this week (pluviometer is a plastic rain capture device for measuring mm/m2).
So the rain held up the school as we have been painting and laying electrics, grand openeing next week with the island mayor coming as well as school governors etc we are having a roast hog for the opening cant wait!
last sat and sunday started my PADI open water, at the Utila Dive Centre which is renopwned around the world for producing the most instructors in the world, maybe also to do with the price being so cheap! $270 US for course plus 2 fun dives.
Did the course with Rut and Margie from the station, we had to watch 5 DVDs then do
a quiz on four of em and a final exam for all 5. Then 2 confined dives off the end of the pier learning fin pivots, remove and clear mask, remove BCD and replace, remove weights and replace, buddy breathing etc etc
as you can see from the photos i have a T shirt tan lol as have to keep covered at station so dont keep getting sand fly bites! spent a fortune in the pharmacy for calamine lotion, ear drops and hydrocortosone!lol
Now the diving done i can go to beach and get a tan!
Then yesterday we did 2 open water dives and today the last two dives.
Unfortunately Rut had problems on dive 2 and when we got to the boat she was in recovery position and on oxygen! All divers came up and we then dropped her at the chamber site / doctors. She is ok they think she hyper ventilated after suffering from headache maybe brought on by dehydration.
Well me and Margie did our last 2 dives today and are now qualified to dive to 18m, was all abit weeird, for me the worst bit was
i struggled to equalize so ears were hurting anf they sdtill hurt now so may leave a couple of weeks before my 2 fun dives.
Water visibility excellent, saw loads of fish, corals, eeels, sea cucumbers and a wreck! Other than one dive there was green algae for top 0.5 m.
You will also see in the picture a dog who has befriended me! We have been finding different dogs escort us home! But this one wont leave! he gives me hugs and seems to have adopted me! I removed loads of ticks off him and gave hime a wash! When we were on boat to go diving he kept getting on the boat and i had to get off to get him off!
One of the volunteers said he has a terrier face so we call him Terry!lol
he follows me everywhere, i reckon if i just kept walking (forest gump style) he would follow me anywhere!
We went to bar babalou after diving to watch the sunset and have a few cold beers! Babalou has a "natural aquarium" as in a hole in the jetty so you can sit round and watch the
fish and squid etc. And plays some cool music, really chilled bar.
We also fitted a hanging feeder at the station, with water and sugar in it, as you can see bats feed on it at night and humming birds in the dfay time, took a while to get the bat as by time the flash goes and picture bat has gone!
Got loads more blog stuff to do to show you all the station activities, pictures school house etc but will save for a nother time, also a bat cave visit.
Anyway keep sending me message or emails of what you up to as well as comments on the blog.... signing off for now marky larf
