The alarm went off at 8:10am. We quickly showered and dressed, then boarded the shuttle for the airport. Kyla had her Global Entry appointment, and we had coffee in the club. Our flight to Roatan was on-time. Immigration was slow, but we were first off our plane (behind another plane, but never mind). (Paul, Pas, Keegan, and I were upgraded. Kyla was in the last row, but they deplaned both doors.) Paul and I also had to wait for the rental car, so we were the last to the villa. The villa itself is fine, but the view is a disappointment. Still, we will have a nice relaxing time here.
We first went to the restaurant and had lunch. Food was good, and we sat outside, enjoying the breeze. After lunch, Ann, Mike, and I went to town to get groceries. The first place we tried was massive but had very little (except corn flakes). So we found another grocery in town, which was busy and well-stocked, and bought food there.
Returning to the villa, we watched football with the others for a while, during a massive downpour (which did not last long). Then, we played a long game of
Cards Against Humanity – fun for everyone. (Mike and Paul tied for the win.)
As it was after 11pm, we went to the club house, where there was a New Year's Party. We bought drinks, then went to the corner of the pool, away from the loud music, and had a party of our own. People at a nearby house were sending up lit lanterns, which was beautiful. The pool was only an inch deep near where we were sitting, so we stood in the water and danced and danced. It was perfect! We counted down in Spanish for the New Year – Happy New Year! After midnight, we lingered for a while, but we were all growing tired, so we returned to the villa to sleep.
