Bridge
This is a very large bridge that crosses the Rio Dulce right where I am staying I´m BACK!
So the last few days have been interesting. Four tourists from Denmark were abducted by a local farming militia and are being held hostage for trade. They want one of their leaders released ASAP, this happened an hour and a half from where I am staying. Right now we are in "Semana Santa" which is the holy week for Guatemala, really it´s a party week but tourists have left for the most part and the busiest week of the year is somewhat quieter now. One of the children from the orphanage broke his arm on Friday but there was no Doctor on site so he went through the night with a broken arm, he then took a boat ride to where I am staying and working at the hotel. His arm was visibly broken and it appeared he had gone into shock, this is when it was decided to make a splint out of rope and cardboard. The closest medical facility with an xray machine is guatemala city which is 6 hours away. Unfortunately there is no medical transportation that will go that far so one of the volunteers had to ride with him on a bus all the
Island
This is a very small island just out from where I stay... way there. He now has a cast 2 days after the break and is doing great, amazing how easy it is to think American healthcare is the standard and is used all over the world... It isn´t, and it really opens your eyes to how lucky we are to have such an excellent and accessible system, even for our own impoverished as well as the wealthy.
On another note, here are some pictures from the countryside and the local city market. I took a video without much narration but it should speak for itself. Great places to walk around here, good local food too!
Well, Asta Luego!

Never a dull moment
It must be somewhat stressful that a local militia kidnapped some tourists nearby. I hope that they are released soon without mishap. I am glad that the little boy that broke his arm was able to receive medical treatment without significant delay. Although it must be disconcerting that he didn't get medical treatment immediately; however he should be able to recover without issue. Thank you for continuing to send all of the beautiful pictures. Cheers, Jonathan
