Isle de Gosier
View from La Vieille Tour...our home away from home... This weekend, Ana Maria and I decided to go exploring for the hidden treasures of Guadeloupe. On Saturday, we headed to St. Anne (one of the most beautiful beaches in Grande Terre) and decided to spend the day at Club Med. There were a plethora of activities to choose from: sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, trapeze, scuba (not on Sat.), snorkeling, jet skis, and the list goes on and on…For 53 Euros, we got a wristband that allowed us full access to all the activities at the Club until 6PM and included lunch and an open bar. Ana Maria kayaked for the first time with me, and the funniest thing we did was drag our lounge chairs into the surf so we could sunbathe with water to cool off! The day was beautiful!
On Sunday, our exploring took us to Basse Terre on a search for a hiking experience and local waterfalls. We started out at the Parc des Mamelles, an outdoor zoo with all sorts of local animals. My favorite activity was the wooden bridge system that spanned the top of the rainforest. We were hooked up so we wouldn’t fall and we did the 40 minute course. We looked like
a couple of monkeys gallivanting through the treetops!
Next, we stopped at Riveriere Corossol, where we found La Cascade aux Ecrevisses. On one side of the road was a picnic area where we found many locals having lunch and a small waterfall. Across the road, was the bigger waterfall we were looking for—La Cascade aux Ecrevisses. There were locals everywhere, enjoying lunch and bathing in the cool, crisp river and at the bottom of the falls. Ana Maria and I did not have our swimsuits, but it was SO hot we decided to get in anyway! It was worth it, the water was refreshingly cold!
After a fun-filled weekend, we headed back to the hotel to relax and unwind. What an adventure!
