Hello everyone! Welcome home Mom! It has been a fun couple of days down here in Grenada. I continue to get mosquito bites-they love us Canadians. We got the chance to go into Grenville a couple of days ago to get all our stuff for VBS. It is neat to see how different the stores are down here. A lot of mixed bag stores, a couple of clothing and furniture, but the town is not the cleanest. There are banners that hang in the streets and people are everywhere. We even saw a funeral procession of people walking down the street following the hearse and loud music playing. We got all of our supplies for Vacation Bible Camp and my friends Lindsey, Ryan and Asha had the hardest time finding tie dye. Things are hard to ... read more

Hello everyone! I am going to keep this message short because there are others waiting to get online. I just wanted share a few photos so look in that section. We went on an 8 km hike today through Grenville the nearest city here and down to the beach. There were kids with their moms playing cricket with scraps of wood and a tennis ball, goats tied near houses every where. Mangos, breadfruit, pears and coconuts hanging from most of the trees. It is hard to see that this land was very much devastated by Hurricane Ivan only a few years ago. There are definitely houses in a wreck but the people have worked hard on the rebuilding but the evidence still remains which testifies to the times. At the beach we met a little boy ... read more

Hello everyone! Well the rain it came down alright last night. The people who are native to the Caribbean called it a wee storm, for us in Canada it would be a torrential downpour. I am continually amazed by the beauty of the view of the Caribbean Sea from the top of Mt. St. Ervans where we are staying. It is a Catholic retreat centre that is surrounded by mountains in the north, lush green forests, starfruit and cashew fruits (like apples) but more sour. From here you can see all the way to the sea. It has been quite hot actually but luckily there is some wind. It is amazing that after having only been here for three days so far that we have gotten to know each other well. There is lots of discussion, ... read more

Hello everyone! We arrived safely after our flight from Toronto to Barbados, then on to Tobago, and then Grenada after the sun set. There was a workers strike in Barbados so we were a bit late getting away. On the plane ride down I sat between a Trinidadian and a woman from Barbados who talked about the merits of silver fish and jack fish. The Caribbean from the air is a beautiful sight and so I took some pictures from the plane. After checking in and out of immigration in Barbados, we even had a tourist rep meet us in Grenada. We met the contingent from Guyana and headed into the town of St. George's. It is a port town, but nothing like anything I have ever seen. We got to see it in the dark ... read more

I love Telescope Beach; it has been my favourite place to be for a month. 5 minutes down Beach Road and I’m there. The locals don’t seem to think to highly of it and some say it is dirty compared to the golden sands of Gran Anse Beach in St Georges, where all the tourists go, or Bath way Beach where all the Grenadines go for BBQs and family days out. Telescope suits me fine, it’s local, beautiful to me and most importantly it’s shallow. In the past it was known for its beauty but since the 60´s /70´s (I think) it has lost that crown. My mum, uncle and anyone old enough to remember tell me it too had golden sands that people travel for miles to see and enjoy. Apparently they blew up the ... read more

Two weeks into my trip and I am finally ready to do this blog thing. So far so good, I've been chilling out and climatising at my folks house in St Andrews, Grenada. It's been very relaxing, swimming in the sea everyday, eating mangoes like it's going out of fashion and eating fresh fish like a local. So far I've been mostly liming with our next door neighbours, Grenadian soca stars Tiger T and Gary 'Stadium' Williams. They've been great, giving us joke, fetes and the insiders knowledge. My big brother hooked up with them when he was here on honeymoon nine years ago. Three of my brothers, Donald, Eugene and Paul and my nephew DJ were here to help start of my great adventure the family way. Chris unfortunately couldn't make it. They've gone back ... read more
