Santo Domingo on a budget

On a recent trip to Santo Domingo, we were traveling on a budget and decided to give Hotel Danae in gazcue a shot Hotel Danae Website . We had stayed there previously but they have since added 6 or 7 new rooms. Gazcue is a great place to stay in Santo Domingo as it is within walking distance to the Colonial Zone, the Malecon and many hotels, bars and restaurants.

Hotel Danae is thinking about adding free WIFO for its guests which would make it even more of a no brainer to stay there. They have 2 employees that speak english and that can also answer any questions via email in English. We speak spanish well enough but it is hard to find hotels in this price range that has any english speaking employees, so that may be a plus for most travelers.

We made a side trip to Santiago and Sosua but while in Santo Domingo we took it pretty easy. Right around the block from Hotel Danae are 2 good places to eat. We had some great imported churrascos at Hotel Senorial and yummy chicken breasts at a little bar on avenida bolivar.

One night we walked down to the Malecon and sat at a plastic table and chairs drinking some ice cold Presidente Beer and just enjoying the breeze while people watching. This a is a great way to spend a night when trying not to spend a ton of pesos.

We did splurge for dinner two nights. One night we ate at Tony Roma's on the Malecon and another at Arsadero Argentina on avenida independencia. The imported Churrasco at Asadero Argentina was great, but we had an even better one at Che Tango while in Santiago!
