A Quiet Day in Havana

No trips today so we decided to retrace the walking tour but going in some of the buildings

Breakfast
We decided to retrace our walk around the old town and look into the interesting places at a slower pace. We're quickly learning that although it looks quite run down it's a very safe city with really friendly people. Our first stop was Armament a Square where we went into the old fort. There was all sorts there including a big chest of pirates gold coins. Definitely worth a visit. We stopped in the square for a while to read our books.... until it started to rain.

We found a good place to have a drink under cover in Cathedral square. Their coffee machine was broken so we had a Pina Colada and listened to the street music in the background. After the rain we walked to Park Central and just explored. There was a quite modern military museum/monument that was guarded by armed soldiers. It consisted of old war hardware from the revolution. A tank, motorboat, aircraft and mobile guns. All very impressive and very well kept

Too early for dinner so we took our books to the rooftop loungers. Various people wonder by until along came an American chap who explained to us about the biblical symbols and names at each of the rooms.... we hadn't noticed! After he asked us where we were from we did the usual thing of saying "Basingstoke, a small town between London and Southampton". He seemed really pleased that he knew our home as it's mentioned in the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy book. Mentioned due to its complicated roundabouts! How surreal!

We'd booked a table at La Modena restaurant so had another random walk before having dinner. Tim had rabbit Julie had shredded beef. We had soup starter.
Then off to bed.
