As planned up 4.30 to catch flight from San Juan to Panama City with Copa Airlines, was a smallish plane but all good arrived Panama City 8.20a.m. for 11.52a.m. flight to Havana (3.1/2 layover). When checking our bags through in Panama City the check in girl put a standby sticker on our luggage, John questioned this and she said you have to go to the gate to get seating allocation. Our 5 STAR experience was just about to crash to about a 2, were told at gate plane fully booked and unless they could get volunteers to take another flight we would have to catch a much later flight, we did not leave that counter until that flight boarded, NO GO for us, you can imagine John, blood pressure sky high and the COPA Airlines staff from one end of airport to other knew who he was, there were also another 3 aussies who were bumped as well, not impressed. Anyway finally arrived in Havana at 8.00p.m. that night which could have been 3.00p.m.

Unfortunately it was dark and we were wrecked so straight to hotel for a beer and straight to bed.

We are staying at Park View Hotel in Havana, that is who Peregrine use, quite comfortable BUT NO WHERE THE STANDARD we have been accustomed to over the last three weeks but we expect this of Cuba, staff are all so friendly and it is location, location right in the middle of Old Havana. This city is simply amazing, it should be on everyone’s bucket list!! It really is like stepping back in time with the wonderful architecture and cars etc. We have walked for about 5 hours today and had seafood lunch on the top floor of an apartment building that has been turned into a restaurant Café Laurent (they have relaxed laws about people being able to turn their homes into restaurants) and we found this on an IPhone App (HGT – Havana good times, an expat has created this app and lists all sort of things about Havana – fantastic!) A huge plate of mixed seafood with a Russian salad, beer and coffee was $29.00 (someone had told us Cuba wasn’t cheap but we have found it very reasonable) Beers at our hotel are $1.25 – great

welcome to my world john and gloria, happens a lot more often than you would imagine, but maybe not to the same degree. Love that prices you quote are all about the beer and the food... Josie and nick will start moving in this weekend, just boxes etc till we get the house finished, another couple of weeks probably. Looking forward to it. Miss your faces, Lee x
