We arrived in La Habana on Thursday 23rd of July late at night. So we had stepped from US-impacted Costa Rica into the very different world of cummunistic Cuba.

Used to but also kind of tired of our usual accomodation in the hostels we were really amazed by the friendly welcome at midnight in the beautiful casa particolar "Casa Dulce" situated in an old and nicely clean prepared colonial house in Habana Centro.

For the upcoming weekend we did not have much more of a plan than hanging out in Habana and see what might be going on on the July 26th for the 50th anniversary of the success of the revolution. Actually it does not need much more of a plan in Habana as it is always nice just to walk along the streets, enjoying the still present old flair from the 50s and see what is happening - and tasks like finding an ATM that works, a bank, good internet-access and a car for rent can keep you busy for a while anyway... 😊.

The 26 de Julio (day when revolution was started) did not show any special political celebrations in Havanna, but a carneval parade and several concerts kept everyone well excited on the Malecon. This avenue on the waterfront is just a very magic place, and it is really hard to describe, as - how I think - everyone has to feel it himself by hanging around or talking a walk on this well frequented place. We spent a lot of time along this street watching sunsets, driving or walking along, looking and watching or just going out there as a nightlife of its own.

We spent a very nice weekend in the city of Habana until we finally managed find a car on Monday morning when we left for an awesome roadtrip...
